Antique Festival of the Ozarks this Weekend

For anyone local to the Southwest Missouri area, just wanted to let you know that the Antique Festival of the Ozarks  will be held this weekend at the Event Center at the Ozarks Empire Fairground, here in Springfield. This is the 3rd year of the show and it just gets better and better.

Vendors from Oklahoma, Ohio, Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and all throughout the Midwest will be there. It's a good sized show, indoors, so don't worry about the cold and wind, it's warm inside! I'll be there shopping, with camera in hand!

And if you haven't joined in for Vintage Inspiration then just scroll down to the last post, still time to join the party!

Vintage Inspiration #111 Savoring Fall

Hard to imagine that Halloween is next week, and that soon all the beautiful leaves will be off the trees, cold weather will set in, and we'll be counting down the days to Christmas. I want to savor the colors and textures of Autumn just a little longer, so I'm sharing some features today that do just that.

Maria from Rusty Hinge has a way with her camera. She knows how to bring you in to her subject matter, making you feel like you can reach out and touch her subjects. Last week she shared some Fall vignettes from her home, and I wanted to share them with you. If you haven't met Maria, you'll find yourself browsing back through her blog posts and enjoying each photo.

just playing...

I have a hundred other things to do this afternoon, but I had to go play over at PicMonkey for a few minutes. These are just a few photos from the last two years at this time in October. Have I told you it's my favorite time of the year? thought so...

Hope you're having a great Sunday afternoon. Cloudy and warm and humid, but oh gosh, the trees are gorgeous!

Ceramic Owls on the Mantel

See this little guy?
He's been my inspiration for a project that I've had in my head for the last several weeks. Well, actually this little fella has a twin. I knew I wanted to have some white owls on my mantel, but I couldn't find what I was looking for. I needed bigger, as these are only about 5 inches tall. Several of you (if you read this, please leave a comment, 'cause I can't remember where I saw them) had spray painted their flea market ceramic owl finds.

So these were the ceramic misfits that I finally located.
But I wanted a white "Snow Owl" look.

After a couple of coats of white latex paint...Getting there, but too "modern", and I wanted some definition of their faces.

So I got out the craft paints and gave them a slight gray wash.
A little paint for the eyes and beak,
and a light coat of spray sealer.
But they needed a little sparkle to get them close to my inspiration.

I think they turned out pretty cute.

Their bigger size makes them show up on the mantel,
 even though they've been "snowed".

I warned you early on that there would be many evolutions of my
"Fall Mantel".
I think this will work until after Halloween.
then...
the "Late Fall Mantel".
