Cottage Review: Garden Wheelbarrow Tablescape

Hi Friends, with Mother's Day coming up next weekend, I know many of you will be hosting a Mother's Day brunch or luncheon. I was looking through some older magazines and came upon my inspiration for this post and thought how fun this would be to create the magazine inspiration below and surprise all the moms at your table.

This original post was from about 10 years and two houses ago. It's just as much fun today and if you don't have a wheelbarrow, no problem. A basket, crate or doughbowl would be just as perfect for a garden display tablescape.

Seed Packet Garden Wreath on the Sideboard

Back in 2013 after seeing a few versions of flower pot garden wreaths, I put together my own take using a grapevine wreath as the base with small whitewashed flower pots and French seed labels attached to paper tags. Since I'm such a fan of vintage garden goods and ephemera, I've loved using this each year during the Spring and Summer seasons. I just needed to figure out a place to put it here at this house.

Fall Front Porch and Landscape Beginnings

With temperatures in the 80's and 90's till a week ago, it's taken me a bit to get my front porch decorated for Fall. I didn't go all out this season because I knew that we would be starting our landscape work here in October... and then last weekend we had a killing frost that took out my flowers out back. Thankfully I went ahead and covered the mums out here, not really thinking it would get that cold.

Wagons and Wheelbarrows for Fall

Hi Friends and Happy Weekend!

I've been working on my front porch today getting it ready for Fall, and I really really wanted to bring out one of the goat carts for display, but I have hesitations because we live on a street with lots of school traffic. I've had things disappear from front porches before, so I thought I'd share a couple of peeks of what I'm doing on the porch, then share some pics from some of my previous cart and wagon fall
 displays.

Wheelbarrows, Wagons, and "Hoo" Else?

Hey Friends, I just wanted to share a few pics with you, as I'm getting the front porch readied for my favorite month... October! I've had some mums out, and my door basket decorated for Fall, but I wanted to wait and share it all with you when I had my French Goat Cart decorated. I was going to use real pumpkins, but I decided to repaint some of my faux stash, and just ended up with them instead.

Henpecked...

Hey Everyone, hope you're having a great weekend! We just got home from another doctor's check-up trip to St. Louis. Great progress on my husband's inner ear surgery, and we always have a wonderful visit with the kids and grandpuppy.

I mentioned last week that I had "recycled" my white wheelbarrow with the veggies and rabbit tureen after they made their appearance as a tablescape. I was still lovin' the garden veggie theme, so I made a place for the wheelbarrow on the sideboard in the kitchen hallway.

But I wanted to bring out the hens and chicks for summer, so I changed out the rabbit tureen for a "chicken" tureen. Both of them white ceramic, that usually live in my kitchen china cabinet along with their sister tureen, a duck.

I found the vintage chalkware momma and baby chicken years ago at the flea,
and they are always part of my "Summer" decor.

Here's the "Veggie Garden-Vintage French Seed Packet Label-Flowerpot Wreath".
Try saying that 3 times fast...

I found these order forms in the little seed catalog that I'm sharing here too.
So naturally, they had to be showing garden seeds!

Each time my husband walks by the sideboard
he's attacked by crazed carrots grabbing onto him.

so sorry...
not.
fine...I'll tuck them in a little better.
Be careful, you might get pecked.
Like I always tell my hubby,
 "Don't mess with my livestock!"
...or the decor.

(Just being silly)

close quarters and bad lighting.
but I just love this spot.

You wanna know where all the roosters might be?
I have them all corralled downstairs.

Weekend Cottage Review: A Garden Wheelbarrow Tablescape

Hi friends, with Mother's Day next weekend I thought I'd share a post that I put together about 10 years and two houses ago. I had recently found the magazine "Southern Tables" and was immersed in lovely tablescapes, many in an outdoor setting for Spring.

Many of you host a Mother's Day brunch or luncheon and I thought this would be such a fun theme to recreate. You wouldn't need a mini wheelbarrow; a basket or crate, even a doughbowl would do. When I saw that feature article I fell in love and since I had a mini wooden wheelbarrow about the same size, I used what I had and did a bit of "recreating" the setting.

This designer used real veggies and clearly put a lot of time and thinking into this tablescape, but it was a fun outlet for me using what I had on hand.

"I had a similar whitewashed small wheelbarrow made of reclaimed barnwood,
so I filled it with a variety of faux  garden veggies.

(The wheelbarrow has made an appearance before on the deck

But I felt like my rendition needed a little more personality,
so a ceramic rabbit tureen that I made years ago hopped inside.

Gardens and rabbits just go together.

You know you have too much "stuff", when you completely forget about a set of green transferware china! Yes, I totally forgot that I had this great set of Enoch Wedgewood Kent china, that had been stored in the side door of my breakfront.

On one of our recent trips to St. Louis I found three of these wonderful consume/berry bowls and salad plates in "Crown Ducal, Florentine England". They are very old and have a black transfer rural cottage  scene on the bowls and plates that read "Little Comberton". A gold rim and raised green fruit design on the border of the plates/saucers had me smitten.

Last week I found the cute little whitewashed Pottery Barn napkin rings that look like flowerpots. Had to have them...and next week I'll show you another fun way I've used them. Woven placemats were from TJ Maxx a couple of years ago, and the linen napkins are just a few of my vintage collection.

I like to set a fun and casual place setting, so small whitewashed garden pots with a faux lettuce leaf hold the silverware.

And vintage French Seed Packet Labels attached to a tag
can be used for place cards.

I'm so glad you came by for my little Garden Setting Luncheon.
