A Trip to The Ozark Mill and Other Weekend Thoughts

I haven't shared a post on "real life" lately. Actually, things are usually pretty quiet and uneventful around here, especially this last 2 years. I don't get out near as much because of the Covid situation, and the fact that I had back surgery last summer. I'll talk more about that in a bit. But I wanted to share a fun outing my husband and I had a few weeks ago...

Out and About and some Vintage Finds

My Mom, Sis and I got together this last week and had lunch, then did a little shopping around town. We all don't get out together often, so this was lots of fun. Then add in some vintage goodies to wander through... even better.

A little weekend randomness...

You all know we've been spending a lot of time in St. Louis for hubby's doctor appointments (hopefully, they will be winding down soon), but when we're there we are so blessed to be able to stay with our daughter and her husband, oh, and can't forget Vinnie, the grandpuppy.

Pic of their 100+ year old home taken last Fall.

I wanted to share this guest room that doubles as Erin's dressing room. She has a relaxed eclectic style; mixing traditional, vintage, and modern pieces. She's not a "fusser and floofer" like me, she loves antiques, but isn't into shopping flea markets. She would like her vintage goods and antiques to magically appear for her decor pleasure. (sometimes I'm her "picker") She's not into clutter, piles of junk, or white chippy furniture. What?...I know.

I've told her that if this white set of vintage monogrammed luggage goes missing,
that it probably came home with me by "accident".

When the Ritz Carlton in Clayton was renovated a few years ago they bought several sets of Birds Eye Maple furniture with king size beds for their guest rooms for a song.

Aside from the great mix of pattern, color, and comfort, I just love how she's used this tiny children's suitcase  (or doll clothes case?) to corral some of her jewelry on the nightstand.

They are bulldog lovers and over the years they've found some fun bulldog collectibles, that are scattered throughout the house. If you look closely you can see a set of glass dogs that were popular in the '50's. Keith is an "all things tobacco" aficionado, so she also has this wonderful little Dunhill ladies lighter from the 40's here too.

I neglected to take a photo of her shoes on display.
She's a heels kinda girl, and let me just say that
she has quite the hoarding and shopping gene when it comes to fabulous shoes.

And for a little inspiration we stopped by The White Rabbit (click here for their blog and shopping) LOVE this store! I could hang there all day, but we were on our way out of town so I kept my visit short, but just had to grab this photo of a wall of moss in the garden area. so wonderful.

And one of our fave spots for a relaxed dinner is Pi. "On the Loop". President Obama had pizza there a year or so ago, and he gave it a rousing thumbs up. yummy. This license plate art is hanging on the wall. It's a good sized piece, and since it's reflective, everything else showed up black on this phone pic. pretty cool.

This will be a working weekend, hopefully we can get the pool opened and the patio furniture out and cleaned up. Our other son-in-law is our right hand man when it comes to jobs around here.
Hope you have a great Memorial Day weekend.
I'll be here for The Marketplace on Monday as usual.
Come by for a visit in between cookouts and family fun!

A Visit to Robin's Vintage Suitcase

As one of my local sponsors, Robin's Vintage Suitcase, I'll be sharing photos of what's new in the store and giving updates on what's happening. Summer is in full swing with lots of bright colors in wreaths and accessories. The garden room is brimming over with outdoor finds for your summer porches and garden spots, and since vintage garden items are a favorite of mine it's always the first place I head.

Robin carries a wonderful mix of antiques, vintage, and one-of-a-kind finds. Also the latest in accessories from market. I'm so ready for sunflowers!!

This wonderful vintage French sofa
is dressed in a heavy linen type burlap.

Robin's creativity is showcased at every turn,
as in this fun lampshade tied with bits of this and that.

lot's of dishes and silver

There's a great selection of wonderful vintage furniture pieces, too.

Robin also creates beautiful wreaths and flower arrangements.

Fun pillows and accessories

Robin's party room, will soon become a Tea Room. The Vintage Veranda is in the planing process and is scheduled to open July 9. Stay tuned for more news on this. It's a gorgeous space with a tried and true caterer and chef at the helm. Personally, I can't wait!! Springfield is short on spots for a girl's lunch.

I found this great frenchy "cafe" pillow for my daughter in St. Louis, as I'll be heading up for a visit next week. More on what's happening next week...I have an adventure in the works!

more photos from Robin's Vintage Suitcase,
and a 3 Year Anniversary Give Away teaser coming soon,

Out to Lunch

My sister had a birthday yesterday and we always have a date for lunch.
This year we headed downtown to a new little spot called The Aviary.
A light and bright little restaurant that specializes in all kinds of crepes.

Springfield is like most cities where for years
the downtown area was "less than" quaint.
The midtown area of Springfield is home to three major Universities;
Missouri State, Drury, and Evangel.
It's a "college town" for sure.

Within the last ten years we've seen our downtown turn around
with lots of restaurants, small businesses, and specialty shops.
It's become quite trendy, that's turning the corner
on making the downtown area a great addition to our city.

I couldn't get as many photos as I'd liked inside
but it's very shabby vintage,
with lot's of old birdcages, branches, and great ambiance.

The food was fabulous,
but we were so hungry we dove in without taking time for photos.
Savory Chicken and Mushroom Crepe
with heavenly French Onion Soup.

A wonderful church pew that's been married to an architectural piece.

Here's my mom and sis,
aren't they so cute?

Inside the "Girl's Room"

We found this great chippy orange door across the street
 with wonderful hardware.
Just had to get a shot.
My sis blended right in!

Hope you're having a great weekend
and enjoying this first week of Fall.
