This is the perfect time of year to look to nature and the outdoors for our decor inspiration. What we might see in a leisurely country walk; bird nests, vines, wildflowers, and moss all come together here with an antique wooden frame for a wild and beautiful Victorian look.

How to Make a Moss Covered Heart

I've always loved using natural elements in seasonal decor and floral arrangements. If it's made of twigs and moss, dried leaves, nuts, acorns, pinecones, dried flowers etc. I'm on it. When I can create something that's holiday related and I can use it year after year, then all the more fun.

Back in 2016 I'd been seeing a lot of gorgeous heart forms covered in moss on Pinterest and in boutique vintage markets and floral shops. Whether it was cardboard, a paper mache puffy heart, wooden cutout, grapevine wreath, or a variety of other forms... I was determined to come up with my own mossy heart creation. No matter where we live, I think we all feel like the days after Valentine's Day allow us a little shift in our thinking. We may still be in the midst of winter and cold weather, but our optimistic hearts and minds tend to want to give permission to thoughts of warmer weather and "Spring".

Hi Friends, hope you're having a wonderfully warm and sunny weekend. So maybe not everyone will be... but hope it's a good one. We're doing a few "house things" and I want to get the back porch at least swept out of leaves that have been congregating there all winter. I'm ready for Spring, I know most of you all are too. We've had a lot of cold weather here and frequent snow. Not deep snows, but snow none the less. The latest was this afternoon as I'm writing this. So many years we have a warm late winter when all the buds pop out, then a deep freeze will hit and early flowers and buds are killed. I'm hoping that doesn't happen this year. Let's get all the cold weather over and done with, then bring on the sunshine!

My Garden Room farmhouse table needed a new look once February arrived. I'd been using my rustic vintage wooden ice cream-maker bucket which I've loved, but I wanted something a little more garden-y and "french-y" for Valentine's Day. I cleared the table top and tried something fresh for February.

This last week I've been bringing out "Spring" around the house. There still aren't many signs outside except for some Daffodils and the buds growing on the trees. It's been fairly bleak around here weather wise. Typical March weather, windy and on the cool side. Did I mention "windy"? Enough to blow you away.

A Few Ways to Transition a Dining Room to Fall

No matter the season, I usually start the change-ups in the Dining Room. That's probably because I get an idea for a tablescape or something new to do on top of the DR table, and that kind of gives me a theme and direction. This year I pulled out a new piece of gorgeous Fall looking fabric that I bought last year but never ended up using.

Moss Covered Heart: How-To

I can't tell you how long I've wanted to make one of these. Working with moss can be messy to say the least, but I had found a paper mache form in the shape of a heart at Michael's, so I thought I might as well dive in. literally. I didn't want to run around town looking for supplies, so I hoped that I had everything that I needed in my stash. (I was a little short on moss since I'd used a bunch on another recent project). Yesterday I shared my inspiration for a Moss Covered Heart for Valentine's Day that will go into Spring and Summer.

Moss Covered Hearts

When thoughts of Valentine's Day and thoughts of Spring collide, I decided a moss covered heart would be fun to create. My inspiration piece has always been this beautiful moss covered heart with Autumn florals and leaves by Robin Gilmore, owner of The Vintage Suitcase, here in Springfield. I've had this photo in my archives and on the blog for several years. I love her work, but wanted something Valentine-y with fresh Spring-y colors. I didn't want to "copy", just give my own interpretation.
