Orphan Sampler gets a Vintage Frame

This last Spring I found this wonderful cross-stitch Sampler
and because I still hadn't unpacked my vintage loose frames
it landed here on my little hallway table.

Pillow Change-up for a Summer Look

Sometimes, just a few small change-ups can make a space more seasonal. And since you all know that I'm a certified pillow fanatic, that's just what a pillow switch accomplished. Last week we had one of the warmest days so far, so I thought I might need to put away the furry leopard print pillows and the animal print PB throw. Instantly lighter and more "summery".

Summer Florals

I've mentioned how I like to keep my floral arrangements current with the seasons, so a few weeks ago I got around to changing out all my silk flowers to be in keeping with Early Summer. I like the look of "just picked and stuck in a container with casual abandon". To me, that concept makes all those faux flowers look a little more "real" and a lot less "faux".

Daisies are the flower du jour here in the Entry,
along with some budded branches.
I like keeping this heavy old iron urn here with the sticks,
then I just change out the flowers for each new season.

This is a spot where a "complimentary" print on the console
also changes with the season.

On the other side of the Entry next to the door is my big white wicker basket
filled with green hydrangeas and the grape vine twigs.

That big basket on the little Eastlake dresser keeps the kitties
from using it as a perch for front porch viewing.
(especially in nesting season)
I have found it on the floor on numerous occasions
when they feel like putting their little furry carcasses in grave danger.

Here's an old basket with wheels that I haven't shared very often.
It still has some faux Dogwood branches, but they were white so they're still here.
(Dogwoods in late June? what's wrong with me?)

In the Living Room I traded out the windowbox for the basket,
now filled with another boatload of green hydrangeas and ivy.
(when in doubt, a hydrangea will work)

(the windowbox is currently back on the Dining Room table
with a Patriotic theme)

Love this old Frenchy look laundry basket.

Last Fall I had a running joke about my mantel...
I had the "Early Fall" mantel,
the "Fall" mantel,
The "Fall/Halloween" mantel,
and then the "Fall/Thanksgiving" mantel.

This would be the "Early Summer" mantel...

Whitewashed Wolff pottery vases filled with
 flowering branches and white Viburnum.

Another hint that it's still "Early Summer" is that there are still "birdie" nests out.
This will change soon.
I have an idea brewing.

Next up will be Black-Eyed Susans and Sunflowers,
with a little color added.
...stay tuned.

I hear thru the grapevine that soon Google Reader will be gone,
so if you follow me there, please switch over to another reader
hanging out on the sidebar.
thanks you all!

Pretty in Pink

Thanks to my sweet husband, my computer is up and running again. He's a "computer savvy guy", so he knows who to call when there's a problem. YAY!!

This post is long overdue, by about 2 weeks, actually, since that's been how long ago my Peonies were in bloom. I've waited for several years for them to mature and they rewarded me this year with some lovely fat, ruffled, oh-so-heavenly blooms.

They needed a special vase,
and I thought that this antique pink Depression Glass Biscuit Jar
 showed them off to perfection.

I'm not really a "pastel" person, but this wonderful soft pink had me thinking of ways to show them off. My one nod to pink in decor is in my love for rosy-posies patterned vintage china, so a little impromptu garden tote filled with my mismatched pieces was the answer.

A pink plaid vintage "luncheon cloth" was the foundation.

Over the years I've collected several different pink floral patterns
 of salad and dessert plates
that I just keep stacked in the Dining Room.

I also brought out two of my Heisey etched glassware goblets
for a little more lacey feminine charm.

Vintage floral embroidered tea towels serve as napkins,
with mismatched dessert silver.

In an update to the yard mess from the storm, we were able to get most of it cleaned up, but it took our Father's Day to get it all done. Lousy timing, but glad that we had that day to do it. At least I can look out on my deck now and not want to cry. I'm sure most everything will be back blooming in a week or two. Just seeing these photos makes me feel better...
