The Entry is for the Birds

May is Bird Month around here, literally! We have a full nest box on the front porch and wherever I go I can here chirping and cheeping. It's been hard to water the fern and containers on the porch because you may get bird bombed by mom and dad.

Easter Cloche and the Spring Entry

Back when I first started blogging, (it will be 15 years in June) cloches became popular. Terrariums were the rage years ago, and I think the cloche vignette sprang from that. I've always loved bringing a few items together to form a small grouping, then highlighting the pieces by placing them under glass.

Love is in the Air Valentine Entry

Hello Friends, are you ready to start thinking about Valentine's Day? Love, Romance, and all that sweet stuff, or are you still tripping over yet-to-be-put-away tubs of Christmas decor? Today I'm part of a great group of gals who are sharing inspiration and some great ideas for celebrating Valentine's Day. Our sweet and talented hostess for the gathering is Laura from Decor to Adore. If you're coming from Lora Bloomquist's Blog, Create and Ponder, then I'm so glad you're here and following the Hop.

Heavenly Holiday Entry

I've realized at Christmas I lean toward a white and ethereal look on the entry console; white lights and white and neutral colors with a light and bright look. For Christmas this year I've tried to bring out a few pieces that are some of my early Christmas décor that I haven't shared for years.

Cottage Review: Enter Thanksgiving

Hi Friends, I'm sharing some Thanksgiving to Christmas inspiration today of my Entry from a few years ago. For some reason, my Entry this year wasn't spectacular (tehe), so I'm sharing some the entry area posts from year's past. As I say Inspiration is Inspiration, no matter the year.  I especially loved this look because of the "Oatmeal Tree" and the neutral painted leaf wreath.

I had a brief thought of just whizzing by decorating for Thanksgiving and doing a more Christmas look, but in the end I just couldn't get there. I love late Fall and Thanksgiving, and I just wasn't up for full on Christmas. So I compromised a bit and brought out my "oatmeal" tree (looks like oatmeal) and called it good.

Vintage Birdcage Candleholder with Seashells

I get on a mini seashell obsession during the months of July and August. Seashells are "summer" to me, so I don't display them other times of the year. Since we live in the middle of the Midwest, (no where anything "coastal"), I have to take advantage of this time of year. So last week I shared a display in the Garden Room, and this week I have a fun Pinterest inspiration vignette in the Entry.

Merry Christmas in the Candlelit Entry

Hello dear Friends, I just wanted to come by to wish you all a very Merry Christmas!! This year we have a new little member of the family so it's an extra special time for all of us. Our first grandbaby has arrived and we're all thrilled.

Early Fall Entry with a Vintage Botanical Print

Hello Friends, time for an Early Fall look in the Entry since we're midway into September. The entry console changes up frequently as do most areas of the house. When we first looked at the house, now 4 years ago, the wall paper in the entry (and Dining Room) really pulled me in with it's traditional neutral taupe stripe.

Early Summer Entry with Bovine Beauties

Despite the gray, rainy weather (and poor light) I wanted to share my late Spring/early Summer entry. Late May is the perfect time to decorate using lovely lush pastel Hydrangeas with a hint of summer that's on the way.

Vintage Cottage Weekend: Wild Victorian Wreath

Hi Friends, today I'm sharing a wonderful wreath that's a bit of a different take on a natural look for Spring. This is the perfect time of year to look to nature and the outdoors for our decor inspiration. What we might see in a leisurely country walk; bird nests, vines, wildflowers, and moss all come together here with an antique wooden frame for a wild and beautiful Victorian look.

Vintage Botanical Print in the Early Summer Entry

It had been since before Easter that I gave the Entry a seasonal freshen up. I wanted to make a few changes that would carry this area easily into Summer. I had my husband pull out the floral tubs last week, but then I decided to just keep the paperwhites here a bit longer. They're one of my favorite go-to faux flower looks. I had plenty of other arrangements to freshen up to move into Summer.

Welcoming Easter Entry with Paperwhites

Sometimes when pieces just "work" for a spot or space I leave them alone. That's what has happened in the Entry here at this house. I changed things up more at the previous house, but this entry is so light and bright it calls for like-minded pieces. It seems that whatever I place here tends to be a neutral color or something that doesn't overpower the basic feel of the space.

Vintage Valentine's Day Entry

Hi Friends, are you having a cold weekend? Wow, we are and some of our coldest weather of the year is still ahead of us. This last week or so I've been using Valentine's Day decorating to bring in a little sense of Spring. I've put away most of the evergreen stems and have concentrated on a few late winter florals that give a feeling of the warmer weather that will eventually come.

Celebrating Advent in the Entry

It's easy to let the fun and busy-ness of the Holidays to take over, and before we know it the Santas and Snowmen and Elves have decorated our homes and heads at Christmas. I know I love to decorate every room, and sometimes I need a spot that I can focus on for the real meaning of Christmas. So when Amber from Follow the Yellow Brick Home invited us to a Hop that celebrates Advent I knew I would love to participate. Thankyou Amber! If you're coming from Marty at A Stroll Thru Life, Hello, I'm so glad you came by.

Transitioning a Fall Entry to Thanksgiving

Have you ever finished up a vignette or decorated an area for a seasonal look, that appealed to you at the time, only to come back the next day, scratch your head and take it all apart and start over? Well, this happens with me, and that's not a good sign. During the early Fall I shared a post using this vase filled with hydrangeas, fall flowers, and sunflowers, but the very next day when I looked at it, I was over it... Got rid of the sunflowers and fall flowers then added colorful leaves instead.

Easter's on it's Way in the Entry

Celebrating Easter this year will be different, but maybe even more special as we seek spiritual hope and guidance during this uncertain time. When we watch the news or think too much about what's going on in the world around us, we might be considering putting some things on hold. Blogging about decor might seem frivolous to some but helps many of us stay plugged in with others and social. And... it's a wonderful way to stay positive and inspired.

A Vintage Valentine Entry

I had fun bringing out my vintage Valentine pieces for this "new" Entry display. We will have been here, at the new cottage for almost a year. I've decorated and celebrated all the other holidays here, so this is the last holiday that's "new" to this house.

Vintage Christmas

Christmas Eve?
I can hardly believe it.
Family will be here soon!
There just wasn't enough time to get all the photos shared,
so I'm going to post pics and be light on words,
otherwise things won't get done!
Anyone else in my shoes house slippers?

Quick peek at the Dining Room
and my favorite corner of the house.

Enter Thanksgiving

I had a brief thought of just whizzing by decorating for Thanksgiving and doing a more Christmas look, but in the end I just couldn't get there. I love late Fall and Thanksgiving, and I just wasn't up for full on Christmas. So I compromised a bit and brought out my "oatmeal" tree (looks like oatmeal) and called it good.

Light and Bright Fall Entry

I'm really loving this Entry Hall at the new house. It's light and bright and traditional with just a hint of pattern in the wallpaper. It's so easy to decorate and fun to try out new elements. This Entry Hall is always flooded with light no matter the weather, so for early October I've wanted to keep that lighter look. As we head into later October and November I'll bring out the deeper colors and prints, but for now I found a couple of British vintage prints with a lighter palette that had been in my bathroom at our previous house.
