October Seed Box on the Farm Table

Oh October, my favorite month!!!

We don't have many changing leaves yet; it's been a two month dry spell, so I don't know if we'll have anything too pretty for leaf peeping. But I'm trying to make up for the lackluster outside viewing by having some fun with the inside fall décor.

I have several antique commercial seed boxes, and a few smaller ones that I have made myself using old boxes and seed graphics. It's always fun to put together a seasonal display with them, but for some reason I don't remember doing a Autumn display... but several times a Thanksgiving display.

This seed box vignette looks very much like October with a lovely orange pumpkin, gourd seed packets and a couple of noisy/nosy crows picking through it. I started the display with the pumpkin and a woodsy bark wheelbarrow that I found last year. Here's how I used it on the Cookbook Cupboard last spring.

We have a bunch of crows around here with the rest of the wildlife. They are always ready to grab whatever the squirrels and geese don't eat out of the scattered seed, bread cubes and apples. They take their food goodies to the birdbath to soften it up.

I think this little faux birdie is supposed to be a partridge,
so he's hanging out in a vintage clay pot looking adorable.

This crow is carrying around a mini basket for any found goodies.

Vintage garden tools are some of my favorite collectibles, so I'm using orange metal ones here in the basket for October. Every once in a while if I'm in a pinch, I'll grab one of them to actually use for a small garden/yard job. My pink and orange old cloth garden gloves are perfectly festive for fall.

I found the long oak leaf branches on Amazon this year and have enjoyed them in my fall flower arrangements along with the pear branches I put together a couple of years ago, and a few sunflowers. It all sits on a reproduction bread board that I use constantly here on the farm table.

Here's a fun October Birdcage display with my little crow fella and a party hat.

... and with a PB lantern filled with mini gourds and pumpkins.

I think of a birdcage like a cloche; you can create such interesting seasonal vignettes inside. Here's another fall display with an antique birdcage sitting on my milk glass cake pedestal on the Entry console.

This post is filled with some fun vintage market finds and inspiration.

Did you catch my last post on the Fall Mantel and Hearth Room.

My heart and prayers go out to all the victims of the storms recently.
