Patriotic Mantel and the Summer Hearth Room

Welcome to Summer friends, I hope you are able to enjoy it and not have to stay indoors because of the intense heat. We were watching TV and endless commercials with people enjoying their "Summer" activities outdoors and I lamented to my husband that "I love summer except for the heat". I guess that's how it's always been. I've just been able to handle it until the last several years.

This year I decorated for summer in the hearth room and just added in a few flags. Instead of going all in with red/white/blue décor that has me climbing around on step-stools, I decided that the mantel could be decorated once for a cottagey summer look, add in a few flags, and be happy with it. I did find a flag garland from the past and used it as an added patriotic focal point. I hadn't used it in years but I thought it worked on this large expanse of fireplace.

I have a mixed bouquet in my smaller pottery Italian-look vases with summer faux florals and color. I'm a real "symmetrical" type decorator, especially on the mantel.

My tromp-L-oeil canvas print of sheep is propped against the mirror. I realize this is nothing to do with patriotic décor, but it's my summer choice and a base for the mantel this season. As I said, I've decorated for summer, and then adding in some flags for an easy holiday look. And, I love my sheep any time of the year!

My vintage concrete sheep are still out on the mantel accompanying the print, so I just added in a flag on each side of the mirror to join the garland. I'm not sure why I haven't used the garland in so long. But I usually have other bigger flags on the mantel. Adding a garland probably would be too much.

I also added in a couple of flags to the small moss ball topiary on the tray. I think I did that last year, too.  A short stack of vintage books in red/white/blue join the sheep for more color.

My comfy slipcovered chair has my antique woven coverlet over the back and a red toile pillow and Amazon lumbar pillow cover sit on top.

A few years ago I found this blue ticking quilted bed quilt and am using it as a base for the sofa. My red Waverly Frenchy fruit print pillows and primitive flag pillow share the spot. I love ticking for the summer. It's one of my favorite summer prints that work with almost any and everything.

I shared a post on the old family sideboard last week, that peeks over the sofa. My Blue Willow antique tureen is the star of the show.

Thanks for coming by friends. I hope you have a great week!
Stay cool.
