Fill a Vintage Tote for Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day Weekend, everyone. Over the years, I've realized this is a holiday, (like many holidays) that can be so bittersweet. I still have my mom, but I know so many of you have moms in heaven. And for those that have lost children or never had children, it's a sad reminder. So to all of you, my prayers are with you today in joy and sorrow.

I want to acknowledge that life while a celebration for most, can also be a heartache for others. I remember when I was very young the tradition at church was for all the moms to have a corsage. Red if your mom was still alive; white if mom had passed.

Today, I'm concentrating on a sweet way to celebrate with gifts for a vintage loving mom, aunt, grandmother, daughter or friend. Just like a gift basket concept, I put together an old wooden tote filled with things I love and appreciate. And it has a lavender theme.

My first thought was to use a bundle of faux lilacs with some of my pastel vintage dessert/fruit plates. A floral mini teapot for two, vintage teacups that were my great grandmother's, vintage embroidered tea towels and my favorite "Gardener's Hand Cream" from Crabtree and Evelyn. If you've never tried this it's so amazing, long lasting, and really nourishes hard working hands.

Another treat is a floral fragranced candle from Goose Creek.

I'm still using my pastel antique tumbling blocks quilt.

Magazines, floral journals, and tea samples complete the scene.

I hope you are enjoying your weekend. We're hopefully having some nice but cooler weather, because we've had some storms through the Midwest that have been devastating to so many. Take care, enjoy your day and family.

  3. Your tote is beautiful and what a fantastic gift idea. I love every single piece inside. I used to have those same plates and gave them away probably 25 years ago. Now I'm sad about it! Thank you for the sweet reminder to pray for the ones who've lost a child or their mom. Happy Mother's Day!
