Giving Thanks in the Holiday Cupboard

Probably most of you are thinking like me; "Where has this year gone?" I don't know why this surprises me because my lifestyle isn't particularly hectic or do I have a crazy schedule. But the weeks go by and I'm  amazed when Thanksgiving and Christmas roll around and come knocking on my door. I'm always thrilled to see them, but never really fully prepared.

My Flying Geese vintage quilt is shown here as these were taken in late October, but now I've replaced these with more wooley winter blankets for a deeper hug into November. This is my "most favorite" quilt because of the wonderful Fall color. And that it was the first quilt that I purchased back in the 80's when we lived in Georgia. I can remember buying it in an antique shop in Marietta and it brought me more of a thrill than any other purchase. It's my go-to for October.

As you know, I really love late Fall and Thanksgiving, so I tend to dawdle a bit during the season. I'm trying to be "timely" and share my decor and still be able to hit the ground running on the day after Thanksgiving. I have my Christmas boxes out, weighing in on when I can feel good about adding in some Christmas decor. It takes me awhile to get there.

I've  mentioned before that Fall has many stages here at my house, especially here in the garden room. Fall starts in late August and resides until late November. Temperature swings in the weather really dictate the colors around I use in decor, so by the time Thanksgiving is here, I'm into the darker colors, heavier textures, and some wooly plaid blankets.

Each time I restyle the Holiday Cupboard I feel like it's my favorite time of the year. But Thanksgiving and Christmas are the most vibrant with all the seasonal color and fun. The last few years I've found myself mixing my copper pieces with the brown transferware in the cupboards and baker's rack during Autumn. I love copper, but the color really lends itself to the Fall aesthetic. Last year I even held some over for Christmas, I was loving it so much.

The large rectangular Aesthetic Brown Transferware Tureen is one of my favorite pieces to display here in the Cupboard. It has a crack in it, so I got it for just a few dollars years ago. Most of my pieces are flawed in some way or another, but that makes something affordable that I probably wouldn't have paid "pristine and perfect" prices for.

I found the larger copper roaster/tray on the top shelf a few years ago at a local winery/cafe. It's new and there were a set of nesting sizes. I decided they were pretty on the lower shelf of the sideboard, but they really needed to be displayed during the fall season. 

 

I've always been mystified by figural holiday planters... so are we supposed to pot some poor little philidendron at the beginning of November and repot it when it's time for Santa to come along? oh well, think outside the box. He's perfect for silverware, etc.

Here's a cutie pie salt and pepper shaker set all in one handsome turkey guy.

This is a chalkware piece probably from the 40's or 50's.

 It's seen better days, but I just love it.
