Bronzed Turkey from Blah to Burnished

I know we all have holiday decor pieces that we've had for years; many of them holding sentimental feelings of family and tradition. Well, I have my share of pieces that are just simply part of the ritual of bringing out Thanksgiving and Christmas decor, but really need a spiff up to make them presentable and up to date.

This little turkey fellow was one of many fun holiday projects my mom and sis and I did back in the 80's with ceramic pieces. Clearly I was not very creative because I just slapped some brown paint on him and called it a day. Now I would probably use creams and varied muted neutrals for a more current look. But unfortunately he's suffered my lack of imagination for around 40 years... so sorry.

I unwrapped him from my Thanksgiving tubs like I do every year and looked at him with fresh eyes. Not only was he really unattractive and boring, but he was dusty and dirty. So first thing; a wipe down to remove the many years of dust. That helped, but I had in mind a little "enhancement" for a flashier look. 

Just a note; this isn't a sponsored post, but sharing how a quick 5-minute touch up gave my little turkey a new life.

Some people get fancy with a special cloth, but I've always found it easiest to just squeeze a dab on my finger and get started. What a subtle difference. So much better.

This is where he had landed on the baker's rack before I realized he needed some immediate help.

After his mini makeover I thought he might be up for a bit more prominent spot. So now he's on the farm table with a tabletop vignette centerpiece for Thanksgiving. The old ice cream bucket filled with seasonal foliage on the bread board is a favorite setting.

Now instead of fading into the background he's up for a little more front and center.

Rub and Buff is a product that I've used for years always with a perfect outcome. It's great for a refresh and highlight for old picture frames along with so many other decorative items. You can get a subtle highlight or a more opaque look.

Honestly, don't know why I waited so long to help out this little guy!
