Kitchen Niche with October Whimsy

Hello friends, here's a peek at my kitchen niche for October. This a fun spot in the kitchen that is yet one more flat surface that gets a seasonal update
often. You know me, I can't leave a flat surface alone without a touch of some kind of décor.
Here's my little Milkmaid Chromolithograph print that lives in the kitchen niche. Look at those cow's little faces. So sweet. This print makes me smile every day.

I've mentioned before that when we moved to this house the kitchen renovation was a few years old by the previous owner. When we came to the Open House this spot was filled with a large screen TV and sound system. I never figured that one out because the bar stools were facing the opposite direction. hmmm. Anyway, instead of trying to match cabinetry or put in shelving we opted to leave it as is and see what happened.

...well, décor happened as is the usual case. I'm not personally a fan of open shelving because I hate to dust and I'm short. So two reasons that wouldn't work. But it's fun having a spot for seasonal décor, and who knows, at some point I may find a wonderful old cabinet to fill the space... 'cause it's not like I don't have enough places to decorate.

My antique "Virginia" large pitcher is filled with faux fall branches and leaves with berries. Two vintage Homer Laughlin pitchers with fall florals rimmed in black, are sitting side by side. My American Family white kitchen scales are pretty much a fixture here, and I've had this house lantern on top for the last several seasons.

I've shared my "vintage" ceramic pumpkin cookie jar that I made with my mom back in the 80's when ceramics were "the big thing". I've hauled this pumpkin all over the place and a ton of moves. It did get cracked during one of those ordeals, but I glued it back together and it's not too noticeable if you're not looking for it

I think this pattern is called "Yellowstone" from the 20's and 30's with several variations created to mix and match. I love them because they look like Fall with the yellows, oranges and black. The little lidded pumpkin box is from Hallmark many years ago.

This time of year, I enjoy bringing out a few of my nostalgic and whimsical late October items from the past. I really don't do Halloween anymore. Now I just enjoy a little "vintage" décor, owls, and a few crows. I am still prone to decorating with orange and black, though. Be watching for my Hearth Room with some fun orange/black Buffalo Check pillows.

You guys, it was highs in the 50's today. I went outside to feed the birds and it was COLD!!! It will warm up later in the week, but it was so nice for a change. Thanks for coming by and have a wonderful rest of the weekend!

  1. That's super cute, Debra. Love the pumpkin trinket, pumpkin clown and crow with all your fall flair. I hate dusting also, and I'm short too. A step stool in my kitchen is always at the ready. Same weather here. Yesterday it was windy too! I went to a chilly pumpkin festival with my daughter and J - what a difference a year makes! She wanted to ride the pony (cried last year), wanted face paint, and was just loads of fun.

    1. Thanks Jeanie. My kids love to tease me about it. They are both minimalists. I don't know how that happened! haha!
