Last week when I shared the Entry hall console with the seashell birdcages I mentioned that it was time to bring out the sunflowers, and other summertime florals for a update of the flower arrangement. The next day I took the plunge (literally) in my faux floral tubs and emerged with some pieces to change up my summer containers.
The farmtable ice cream bucket was the first to get the makeover with golden and creamy white sunflowers. Sunflowers are my go-to for mid summer to early fall. I like to mix it up a little bit, so there are a few lighter colored ones, a few daisies, and some black-eyed-susans. Mossy sticks that I purchased earlier in the year make it look a bit more "natural".
Another summer staple is anything "Chicken"... not as in fried, but as in scratching in the farmyard. I have this adorable chalk vintage momma chicken here along with a tote filled with vintage kitchen tools and some vintage feed sack appliqued tea towels with a fruit motif. Momma makes an appearance somewhere each mid-summer. Her baby chick is peeping around here somewhere.
Here's one of my old totes with my collection of red and white handled vintage kitchen gadgets, and some of my rolling pins. My maternal grandmother's small collection that she used daily, got me started with these. There's a dough cutter that I actually still use for crusts and doughs as it cuts in butter perfectly.
I used to grab up these advertising recipe pamphlets whenever I saw one at the flea markets. Most of them are stained and dog eared but I love the graphics. Also some great recipes.
The one below is from 1948 and unfortunately very politically incorrect. Something very common at the time. Most of the recipes "are all about ham". Think Gone With The Wind for a frame of reference. The food looks yummy though.
I'm still using the Frenchy grain sack stripe fabric from my patriotic looks here earlier in the month. This vintage wooden ice cream bucket is my fave flower arrangement container for this farm table. It's big, it's rustic, it's white!
.
Here are some other summer posts with sunflowers.
...now I need to round up Baby Chick,
I hope you're hanging in there with this heat.

Good Morning Debra. I love the sunflowers in the old ice cream bucket. I have my white chippy bucket with summer flowers but am thinking about putting sunflowers in it for fall. So pretty. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteHi Kris, sunflowers are definitely a runner up to fall. I'll be adding and subtracting to this arrangement for awhile. Have a great Wednesday!!
DeleteDid you know that I finally found a vintage ice cream maker like yours? And it's white! Well actually my son-in-law found it for me. I was so excited! Can hardly wait to get back down to the farmhouse and change out the flags to something else. I've not tried it on the table yet but my gosh, your table centerpiece is stunning! The sunflowers pop but those vintage tea towels and old recipe books are adorable. Love this! pinned
ReplyDeleteOh Yay!!! these wooden buckets are getting harder and harder to find because the salt rots out the wood. I've had 3 of them over the years and one completely fell apart and the squirrels started chewing on this one. I had to rescue it from the back porch!! teeth marks on the bottom!
DeleteSo pretty, Debra!! I LOVE the sunflowers in that amazing white bucket! I just changed up my faux florals the other day, too. It changes the whole feel of the house! Thanks so much for sharing at Home Imagined this week!
ReplyDeleteYour mid-summer decorating theme is precious Debra...it tells a story of country life with the chickens and roosters. I definitely want to incorporate some chickens and roosters into my next summers vignettes, I never thought of doing that,...love your adorable vignettes. I always love everything you do!
ReplyDeleteLove the colorful fruit towels too...it's perfect!
ReplyDeleteHi Debra- I just adore that wooden ice cream bucket and it looks spectacular filled with sunflowers. Your chalk ware chicken stole my heart. Thank you for sharing your post with the Home Imagined Link party.
ReplyDeleteDebra,I'm in the process of creating a sunflower post for Monday Morning Blooms. I can't decide exactly what I'll do for the table. Love sunflowers, so always fun. You have inspired me! Thanks! Wish I had an old ice cream bucket.
ReplyDeleteLove it all...especially the mixture of sunflowers, chicken and vintage kitchen tools~! But especially the chicken! I'm not sure why they are not wildly popular; I have quite the collection and find them charming and welcoming. Those vintage recipe books and tea towels are priceless!!
ReplyDeleteI cannot think of anything better than sunflowers and chickens! I love this vignette and how you styled it Debra :) Hugs & have a great weekend! Tanya

The vintage tea towels are adorable Debra. The different colors of sunflowers look great in the ice cream bucket too. I always love your displays, thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Everything is as pretty as ever! I'm back after a 4 year blogging break to homeschool.
ReplyDeleteDebra you totally capture the essence of every stage of every season. So many things here evoke nostalgic memories of late summmers past. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteYour sunflower table looks amazing! I too love your big white ice cream bucket. I have a small green one, but need to keep my eye out for a larger one. That would be a good DIY project for me.
