Stars and Stripes in the Garden Room

Hello from the Garden Room sitting area this hot summer weekend, as we welcome the month of July and a long July 4th weekend. This summer I gave myself some time to enjoy decorating for the 4th of July, gathering all my red, and blue items for display.

For me decorating for any holiday isn't so much about themed objects, but more about "color". So that means gathering linens, pillow covers, and quilts in reds and blues for my wicker pieces in the sitting area.

This vintage quilt background appears to be "pinkish", but really it's a sort of red chambray fabric with block patterns in browns, blues and grays. I made the ticking stripe pillows years ago, and found the blue star pillow covers on Amazon.

The small grain sack pillow has a faded eagle on the front, and the small pieced pillow was from a quilt remnant with red and blue stripe vintage fabrics.

The bench/coffee table changes throughout the season and holiday. I often find myself adding and subtracting small elements within the old white crate as I try something that fits that particular small vignette. The coffee table becomes a "canvas" that I can rearrange as I decorate other areas. So when you see my pics, they can change up from day to day.

An old metal cannister, that is "odd-man-out", was probably for flour in a set, since it's a pretty large container. Today, it's holding a small pot of variegated ivy. My old bluebird bud vase is still out from this spring. Two "Bluebird" China cups fit right in with my bluebird bud vase.

I found this red/cream toile floral and vine coverlet years ago and this wicker chair is a fave spot to display it with an old flag pillow and heart shaped quilt remnant.

The baker's rack is displaying a few of the actual patriotic vintage pieces that I have. One of the vintage flags that I've found came in this fun cardboard box from the Bulldog Bunting Flag Company from the 40's, (I think) A Sunshine Biscuit tin depicting the Liberty Bell is from the 70's bicentennial. Whatever pieces that are red and blue are fair game on this patriotic baker's rack display.

I shared a closer look at the Holiday Cupboard earlier this week. So if you missed that post, you can catch it HERE.

Here are a few more pics from July 4th Patriotic posts of the garden room...
