This has been such a busy month that Im running behind (what else is new?) But it's not every Christmas that your first grandbaby arrives! Christmas will be here in a few days and I have to start getting ready for overnight guests and bake a few desserts.
I usually have posted the Holiday Cupboard long before Christmas week. I remember when I took these pics it had been overcast for several days and the light was not conducive to photos. I found a few bright light bulbs and made do. If you see a bunch of shadows... Winter in the garden room can be iffy.
Back before Thanksgiving I brought out most of my copper pieces and sprinkled them around the house for display. Most of them ended up out here on the Baker's Rack and the Cupboard. I really enjoyed them for Thanksgiving/late Fall and I really wasn't ready to pack them all away.
So... I thought I'd try a neutral vintage look to see if they could mingle with a Christmas theme. I used a combination of brown and red transferware dinner plates lining the back of the cabinet. When I use traditional red/green color scheme the red transferware takes over.
I usually use Tartan plaids and pops of red, but this year I scooted the plaids to other vignettes and concentrated on a couple of vintage English paper houses, transferware teapots, neutral bottle brush trees, some fuzzy deer, and gold and silver Shiny Brites.
A little vintage Catholic prayer card in a small silver vintage frame.
I found a few packages of vintage tinsel garland at a vintage market a while back. When I was a kid tinsel garlands and tinsel "icicles" draped the trees after all the ornaments were hung.

This year I used the old garland across the top shelf with a white "Noel" ornament.
A few weeks ago I made some cute little Gingerbread Houses from wood blocks and supplies that I found at Michaels. I love gingerbread houses and small wood block primitive houses, so I combined both looks with these.
The neutral colors I was using worked perfectly with the little gingerbread houses.
The little vintage step stool has a few of those plaid tins stacked on the steps.
Two vintage tinsel wreaths are hanging inside the door and tied with thread through the metal grille on the doors. I'm sure the doors were originally glass, but when I bought it this unattractive gold metal was there instead. I just gave it a dry brush of white paint to tone down the metallic look.
We've had a mini blizzard today with crazy low temps which as I type this it is officially minus 8 degrees... yes -8 degrees!! We just got a few inches but it's enough to cause a lot of road hazards. If you're driving stay safe and bundle up. The storm is headed east so I know everyone will be having a cold and snowy Christmas.
Here are a few posts from the past with the Holiday Cupboard at Christmas...
