I have a lot going on in the Garden Room this Christmas. (well, I guess that's nothing new since I usually do!) It's been fun taking a bit of a different theme on the Baker's Rack and the Holiday Cupboard this season, which I'll be sharing soon. But for now I wanted to wish you a Merry start to the Christmas Season, along with my two old Christmas buddies.
My handmade Father Christmas has been here in the Goat Cart for the season this last few years since we've moved to this house. It's a perfect spot for him because he needs a bit of "stability" so he won't topple over. He's jointed and if I'm not careful he looks like he's had a bit too much of "Christmas Cheer".
My mom hand made him back in the late 80's and I've always felt so blessed that she gifted me with him. I have a link to a post where I featured my woodsy Father Christmas at the bottom of this post. He's here in the wagon in the Garden Room with a wooden primitive church birdhouse and a small Christmas tree in a vintage bushel basket.
You may notice I have something "new" on the little white desk behind Santa.
This is my younger daughter's dollhouse that her grandfather put together from a kit back in the mid-80's. He made one for both the girls and they've been well loved and used, then packed up and stored at our last several houses.
Back in 2014 when we moved I found it in boxes, so I gave it a more up to date look with white paint and gray roof and door. I didn't do anything with the interior so it's still stuck in the mauve/blue rut from the 80's.
Since our grandbaby is a girl, this might get a makeover in a few years. Right now it's usually found in my office on top of my bookcase. The porch looks pretty forlorn, but I did find small clay pots for pinecone "topiaries"., and two white bottle brush trees at either end. Instead of a dog waiting by the front door, a little nativity lamb is waiting to be let in.
Have you seen that new Volkswagon commercial where a sheep adopts some unlikely parents?
I hope this video works, it's so cute, you all know I love sheep...
This space is especially pretty at night all lit up with Christmas lights.
And here's my other old Christmas friend; my antique rocking horse that shows up for Christmas celebrations.
He likes to sport a little Christmas greenery with a Tartan bow this time of year. We come and go from the back door, when family shows up. It's easy parking around the back of the house without steps. This makes for a fun welcoming Christmas Greeting for friends and family.
Be sure and come back Saturday when I'm joining a group
Christmas Cheer with Father Christmas and Friends
Hope you'll come by the link party on Monday evenings.

Your mother made Father Christmas? He's beautiful -- she did fabulous work and how special that he is part of your collection. I had to smile about placing him in a spot where he wouldn't topple -- I think we all have a treasure or two like that. We might (or might not) want to move them elsewhere but it becomes a moot point -- standing up is more important! That doll house is a treasure too. I wish I had my childhood one.
ReplyDeletethankyou Jeanie, yes he's a bit wobbly so I have to stay on the lookout. My mom's such an amazing seamstress, and so creative.
DeleteWhat a wonderful git to have from your mom. He is gorgeous. Love the doll house and the wood horse too. It all looks so great together. xoxo Kris
ReplyDeleteThankyou Kris, I just came from your place. I always love seeing your lovely holiday decor. Hope you're having a good week!
DeleteDebra! I love all your Christmas friends, but that dollhouse is extra fabulous! It so reminds me of the joy I felt as a kid when I got my own dollhouse, and all the years of fun I had with it! I hope your grandbaby will get it and love it too. Also I didn't know you liked sheep! :) Me too, and I LOVED the ad - SO cute! Thanks for the fun memories and inspiration today. Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteYour Christmas decor looks beautiful. I love your antique rocking horse. I'm sure your new grandbaby will adore that dollhouse when she's old enough! I'd love to have you come by & share on Crafty Creators Link Party (Thurs. at 6am thru Mon. at 11:59pm) if you get a chance. Hope to see you there!
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful display Debra!
ReplyDeleteSo magical.
You're most welcome to join me in a cuppa at Tea With Jennifer 😊
Liked Father Christmas and the horse, but fell in love with the dollhouse! I am a mini addict and have several unfinished houses--maybe next year I will get to one! I love making little accessories--I call it scrap craft as a lot of it is "trash". Bottle caps, scraps of ribbon, cream containers from the diner, etc. You will have such fun redoing the house--who knows--maybe your grand will like the present colors!
