June is here and it's time to add a bit of the RED/WHITE/BLUE to the decor around the house and inside the Holiday Cupboard. This year I thought I'd try something a little different by combining my usual "summer" dishes, my French faience, along with the few red transferware pieces I've collected through the years.
...And I wanted to make it easier to just add in some small flags that would take us through Independence Day in early July. I had a few pieces of blue transferware before the big purge when we moved, but I let them go. That first July here I realized I'd been too hasty, but instead I decided I'd go with the red combo of florals and transferware. No blue? Red will do!
I've mentioned before how adding in a few flags to any display can give you an instant patriotic decor look. The small ones can easily fit into teapots, flowerpots, pitchers, and sugar bowls. Book shelves and cabinets are the perfect spots for this fun little decor flourish with flags.
The Berry Basket faux bois platter on the bottom shelf is Fitz and Floyd.
The red patterns below are Meakin Staffordshire Tudor Roses
and Wedgewood Old Vine.
One of the most endearing aspects of any color of transferware, is that you can mix and match patterns to your heart's content. I don't have complete "sets" of any of my transferware patterns, so they all get layered together for a casual vintage look. The French pottery floral dishes are perfect as a compliment to any color of transferware because of their own abundance and variety of hues.
The red transferware dinner and salad plates
are Old Britain Castles from Johnson Brothers.
A small Japanese majolica vintage bud vase and berry flowerpot
blend in with the rest of the summery pieces.
This is a vintage Haldon Group Provincial Fruit Pitcher.
Here's the Cupboard before the addition of flags...
a perfectly early summer cottage look.
now, back to the holiday.
Here is last year's Patriotic Cupboard with Flags and Teapots.
and from 2020's Patriotic Holiday Cupboard
