If you all remember, the sideboard was one of those family pieces that lived in the basement the last several houses we've had. I had a few pieces that I wouldn't /couldn't part with that had been handed down for at least a generation or so. I loved them, but just didn't have a spot for them in the main living areas. The sideboard was from my grandmother's home and is from the late 1800's. It was black with old varnish at that point, then we refurbished it in the late 70's and it stayed with a sealing oil finish until we moved here 3 years ago. Since I painted it white with ASCP I've fallen in love with it all over again.
It's in the Hearth Room now and it's a beautiful piece of furniture to decorate for the seasons. Anything white looks perfect there, so whatever the season, I gravitate toward finding the right white look.
This Christmas my little white churches were calling to be displayed here. I haven't used them yet at this house, and they'd been boxed up in my basement storage room. I'd look at the box over these last few years and scratch my head about where they would look best.
I love the little shelf above the mirror, because it's a nice size to display smaller items, so some of my white cardboard houses and churches are here.
Last Christmas I found a couple of dough bowls painted white, you can check them out here. This year I have one of them here on the sideboard and filled with vintage gold and mercury glass ornaments, surrounding a large creamy white candle.
These larger porcelain churches had a mini makeover back several years ago. I had collected them because they were white churches, but as my love for a white palette continued I decided to make them a little more "white".
Here they are at dusk lit up and reflected in the wonderful original beveled mirror. We've moved so many times, it's truly a miracle this mirror has survived.
These two little churches were from Target last year.
We've been on a warm/cold roller coaster here lately...
And wow, this month is getting away from me.
I think I'm finished tweaking my decor,
but I have a garage full of messy Christmas tubs to straighten up.
Hope you're having a great week.
We hope you'll come by and join in on Monday evenings.
