Hi there Friends, I'm feeling a bit behind on getting all my Thanksgiving posts out in a timely manner. In truth, this season rolls by way too fast for me. I love Thanksgiving and love to savor this time of year, when the temps are finally cooling off and a warm woolen blanket is welcome in the evening and when enjoying a cup of something hot on the back porch.
Today I want to share my favorite place to decorate, and that's the Holiday Cupboard. I have a lot of collections for the holidays and my vintage turkeys are such fun to bring out and use to decorate (anything and everything). Thanksgiving was always my designated holiday to host for family get togethers, so it was natural for me to collect more goodies.
I've been blogging for over twelve years and I've watched blogging change dramatically. A lot of the change is because of technology and social media, but much of the change has been spurred on by advertising and pressure from within each of us to "get the jump" on Christmas. I totally understand that we want to share inspiration and ideas, but I've never been the person that feels like I want to rush through the year at breakneck speed in order to get to the next big thing. I get it, believe me, about endorsements and collaboration, but at the same time I want to enjoy and savor "life" and the seasons. It's hard for all of us since in reality we only have 4 weeks to decorate for "Christmas". I'm like the rest of us that want to get things done so we can relax and enjoy the season of Christmas.
Even just a few years ago, people would complain and gripe if you dared show a pumpkin before September 1. And heaven forbid if you brought out a Christmas tree before Thanksgiving. It was barely tolerated if you shared inspiration photos of Christmas or your previous posts with your photos from last year. You could get away with sharing your "Fall or Autumn Tree" or maybe a tree decorated for Halloween, but forget it if you tried to share Christmas. You may think I'm kidding or exaggerating, but I'm not. It was like a rock throwing contest if you got ahead of the holidays.
So now when I see bloggers that announce on November 1 that they're "done" with Thanksgiving and moving on to "only Christmas" it makes me sad. I'm afraid that soon, Thanksgiving will be deleted. I don't share my opinions here on the blog too often, but this is just a feeling I've been having this last couple of years. Please don't hate me because I'm sharing my thoughts. 😏
I love Thanksgiving and this time of year.
...and I have a few more posts to share.
I'm also in the middle of changing up my house.
Christmas in some rooms... Thanksgiving and Fall in others.
So, I'll be sharing some Christmas decor very soon.
I like to keep a visual diary of each season and holiday,
so that's another reason why I want to record how I decorate each season.
I'll have a Fall Home Tour soon, if only for the record books.
Or maybe I'll just share it in September and October... or July, tehe.
Here's the sitting area of the Garden Room,
which has now moved on to Christmas.
I guess one of the reasons I love this time of year, is that the colors of Fall are my favorite personal "hues". Browns and golds and warm greens and rusts. These are the colors that I use personally and in my home decor. Many years ago I had a makeup color analysis back when that was a trendy thing to do. I have dark hair and green eyes and fair to medium skin tone. I wasn't a "Winter", I wasn't a "Fall", but fell into the category of "Jeweled Autumn". Somewhere in-between. So there you go...
Okay, moving on...
I hope you're enjoying Thanksgiving and Christmas!

ReplyDeleteHave a great rest of the week. xoxo Kris
just so you'll know, dear Kris, I wasn't referring to you. It's mostly new bloggers who haven't been through the "Holiday Wars". I always love all your posts no matter the holiday and season! xoxo
DeleteThanks for making room for Thanksgiving. I love it as well. I do Christmas beginning the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It can then run through Epiphany (January 6) and let me celebrate a quiet Christmas after all the rush. P.S. I am a "winter", but that does not mean I can't do fall colors in fall.
ReplyDeleteThankyou I agree, a quiet Christmas, that's what we all want I think.
DeleteJeweled autumn. I absolutely love that!
ReplyDeleteI, for one, am in 100 percent agreement with you about a too-early transition to Christmas. (If it was up to Rick, it wouldn't be till December 15, but I start the day after TG.) I don't like rushing the season, which is rush enough. (I also don't have ads or sponsors, which gives me a lot more flexibility and freedom to do what I want, when I want and not have to have a bottom line hanging over my head!)
On TG morning I take down things in areas people who come later for the day might not see (bedrooms, for example) and I bring up as much Christmas as possible to stash in the guest room so I can power-start the day after. But TG and fall is still "sacred" in its way. I leave Christmas up late, too (partly because I do so much, getting it down fast isn't an option! And I love it!). Your garden room is beautiful and I love your hutche. All good wishes for a lovely week.
Thankyou Jeanie, Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday and I don't want to feel weird having Thanksgiving posts in early November. Hope you're having a great week!
DeleteI, too, love Thanksgiving. My daughter was born 11/28 and some years her birthday falls on Thanksgiving. This makes it all the more important to me. I don't start Christmas till after Thanksgiving to give us all time to enjoy that day. Thanks for pointing out the rush to Christmas decor without giving the earlier holidays a chance to shine.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous display of Thanksgiving. You have some really beautiful pieces. Thanks Debra for sharing at Love Your Creativity. Happy Sunday.
ReplyDeleteDebra, I know we talked about this last time, but yes, I like to enjoy each holiday a little longer as I get older. Funny that you mention "having your colors done!" My sister-in-law and I had ours done while we were in college. She was dating my younger brother then (they've been married 34 years now, like Mr. E and me).
ReplyDeleteI am a summer but also can wear bright spring colors, so that's what I do! Love bright terracotta peach!! I do wear browns and earthy colors in the fall. Browns were on my color palette, as I recall. ;)
Happy you enjoyed this post's feature this past Wednesday at Share Your Style #327,
Happy holiday hugs,
Barb :)
