Hello friends... I'm joining a small group of bloggers today to share how we've used chalkboards in our vintage decor. Cindy from County Road 407 has put together a Blog Hop series that celebrates all things vintage and how we incorporate them into our decor. If you're coming from Cindy's blog, welcome, I'm so glad you're here to continue the fun!
A few years ago when chalkboards were a big trend in vintage decor, I fell in love with the look of vintage chalkboards and all the wonderful art displays and creative hand lettering. From elaborate to simple and childlike; chalkboards are an expressive way to share ideas and information.
It didn't take long for me to realize that hand lettering a decorative chalkboard sign probably just wasn't one of my talents. So I looked around for alternate ways to "get the look".
I wanted a small chalkboard with a happy snappy message
that would be fun for a Fall display.
Pinterest had tons of ideas to create a wonderful piece,
so I looked for something with simple and easy lettering.
I gave it a good try, but decided that I would ask my sister to create a simple script font message on her Silhouette machine that would be easy to transfer to the chalkboard background. I found the small chalkboard at Michaels and gave her the dimensions. Since then I've also just used black poster board for the "chalkboard" background and attached the script cutout on top. It still gives the same look, but can be used with a wooden frame.
Here's the original post from 2016 displayed
in my kitchen sitting area at our last home.
And here's a post of the kitchen Baker's Rack for Fall in 2017.
My Fall decorating is a work in progress... summer to early fall at the moment.
I have the sign sitting on the coffee table/bench in the Garden Room.
You can read about the floofed up pre-made wreath HERE.
It's leaning against a metal lantern on one of my black tole trays.

ReplyDeleteThis sign is so cute, Debra! I love the font you chose and using a Silhouette cutout is such a genius idea. I have naturally scroll-y handwriting anyway but no one can read it 🤣 so I'l definitely be trying out this idea too. Thanks so much for the tip. Hope your weekend has been peace filled and relaxing, CoCo
ReplyDeleteI have a silhouette machine and have not used it for a chalkboard sign but goodness me, that is genius! Where is my brain?! Love how you've put in on a table vignette. That's clever too and looks wonderful there. I tend to go the route of putting it on the wall but I'm going to try it on a table. Thanks for the great idea and for joining us today! pinned
ReplyDeleteLove the sign, the font is my favorite
ReplyDeleteLove your sign and your idea for the font is perfect. Laura
