"Sunflowers" on the Church Pew

August has always been my "sunflower" month. You can't look at them and not smile back. I've used them all over the house this late part of summer in flower arrangements and prints. I mentioned earlier that I'd found some fun sunflower graphic pillow covers on Amazon for good prices. Originally I'd thought about using them on the front porch, but I decided to use them here in the Garden Room and the Hearth Room instead. I would have needed to Scotchguard them before taking them outside, so for now they're still here on the church pew in the garden room.

Last night right before I put out this post, I realized my big gorgeous sunflower pillow that is the focal point on the church pew was upside down. haha. To my defense it looks good either way but my semi-perfectionist personality couldn't stand looking at it. All I could do was redo some pics and put out the post this morning... whew.

Today, I wanted to do a few more pics with the pillow right way around.  I'm not a perfectionist, but it was driving me bonkers looking at that silly pillow. I started out using the ticking stripe pillows alongside, but when I redid these pics I tried out the taupe/white Buffalo Check instead and liked them so much better.

I wanted to use my big ol' brown needlepoint sunflower pillow on the church pew this late-summer/early fall few weeks, and they worked perfectly. I found the pillow years ago at a flea market and look forward to late summer each year. Honestly that sunflower pillow weighs a ton because it has a feather pillow insert, and it's just perfect for late summer and early fall. Here it is from last year's post. Exactly 1 year ago. Church Pew in August.

Here it is at our previous home.

My sweet old rocking horse is here too and even has
a black-eyed susan adornment and striped ribbon on his bridle.
He gets a new coordinating ribbon for each season.

The mini-plaid quilt is vintage and is the "backside" of a quilt for Fall.
I bought it for the other side but have ended up loving this little neutral plaid.
It mixes and matches seasonally with so many pillows and other prints.

In case you were wondering...
My old metal trunk is peeking out from underneath the church pew.
I painted it white years ago along with most of my vintage suitcases.
I keep the white matelassé cover on the church pew
and it's easy to forget that the trunk is underneath.

My little galvanized door basket is filled with faux black-eyed-susans and a few sunflowers. The basket is an antique gathering basket filled with some moss balls and vintage garden tools painted yellow. Whew, glad I got this post fixed! I have a few more pics from this late summer season. I'll be sharing them till the end of August. Then "Fall" will arrive with September. I'm ready!

I started decorating for Fall this week and it's always an organic process.
(and a big mess)
I never really have a plan for decor, it just spontaneously comes together.
I guess it sometimes looks that way too. (insert laughing/crying emoji)
But I do keep things moving around and change things up frequently,
so if something doesn't work I change it around until it does... hopefully.

Sorry, I can't get the page links for the pillow covers.
Just type in "Sunflower Pillow Covers" on Amazon.com.
(This isn't a sponsored post, just sharing the goodies)

  1. Love your church pew with the sunflower decor. The pillow is fabulous. Your old vintage rocking horse is great too. Very pretty. Have a good weekend. xoxo

  2. I've just started thinking fall with a project that is new to me - copper leaf pumpkins. Like you, I also like to slowly and organically add bits of fall decor here and there! Pinned!

  3. I love sunflowers, and love the way you've used them.
