As August heads into the last weeks, so Summer is also winding down. We may still be having temps in the 80's and 90's but I'm starting to make a change over to more Fall colors, themes and textures throughout the house. I won't be full-on Fall for a few weeks, but this is a fun time to start slowly switching a few things up with a Harvest palette and a few nature sensitive florals and that could mean a small discreet pumpkin hiding here or there.
Majolica has always been associated with Spring and Summer for me. The vivid hues of fruit and woodsy teapots, plates, and pitchers lend themselves to the bright summer colors that I love during the months from May to August. Right now, I have them here in the Holiday Cupboard along with the French Faience as a light and bright display. The French pottery has been here since late May, but I'm ready to change them out for my brown transferware pieces.
Brown transferware is my favorite way to bring the
Holiday Cupboard into the more subtle colors of the fall season.
I mentioned in this post how my husband has been so sweet to do some flea market shopping for me "by proxy". When he checks on his antique mall space he takes some time to browse for me. He's pretty good at guessing what I like and collect. He takes photos and texts them to me for a thumbs up or down. He finds great pieces, but sometimes the prices are just too high. He has a good eye most of the time.
He found this cute little Midwest Importers "new" leafy teapot a few weeks ago, and it fit right in with what was happening in the cupboard this month.
I've enjoyed playing with the faience, but it's a more spring and summer motif.
I'm ready to bring out the golds, browns, deep reds and even a little orange.
A few pieces of "Bee Skep" items are also here in the cupboard
celebrating late summer.
Bee's wax mini candles, and a hinged trinket box.
My few pieces of Majolica are pretty hodge podge at best.
Some are old with small imperfections and other pieces
are vintage from Japan,
then others are "new" like the little teapot above.
Before the pumpkins take over I like to use pieces
with apple and pear motifs.
Because I gotta say those pumpkins really take over fast!!!

Absolutely gorgeous Debra! Your displays are always enchanting! Blessings, Edie Marie
ReplyDeleteYour Cupboard looks so pretty. Love your teapot. I am a summer girl but with how hot and humid this whole summer has been I am ready for fall. Hope you are feeling good. xoxo Kris
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy the way you display your collections. I'm so impressed with your in house home shopper! What a man you have. Adorable little teapot.
ReplyDeleteYour husband is super sweet to shop for you, Debra! That's another great pick! I know what you mean about the spring and summer feel, but the grapes are definitely a fall thing if you decided to leave a few with your brown transferware. As long as you have the energy to keep the rotation going before the pumpkin patch 'takes over', that is. You're putting me to shame with all the changes you've made this past year, in your holiday cupboard especially. My 'stuff' is just sitting in tubs, wondering when it all gets to come out and play! I am making some changes, just not as many. Sometimes I focus on the booth and pulling things out for it, other times it's the loft.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy getting a peek at others' collections and always admire how you you style your holiday cupboard. I have some pieces of majolica design which are so fun to work with. I'm getting back in the swing of changing out seasonal decor, having been on a bit of a hiatus this spring and summer. Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteDebra, I think I may have goofed... I replied to another holiday cupboard post but used this photo and link, which was correct, so disregard the other! :) I featured this post at SYS #316 this week for you. I love the majolica!!! Your husband does have a good eye! It's nice that he is out there thinking of you when he restocks his antique finds. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy fall decorating and I'll look for the other post for next time (probably what happened... I read ahead.)
Hugs,
Barb :)
