Subtle Changes Welcome Thanksgiving

I think this is my favorite time of the year to decorate. I love Fall; all stages of Fall. This is the start of the Holiday season, AND of all things warm, cozy and comfy. I'm really enjoying the change of seasons at this house. The trees are beautiful, and even the leaves that are covering the yard and piling up in the back porch have their charm.

(I'll share the Thanksgiving Holiday Cupboard next week)

The smell of woodsmoke permeates the evening air in this neighborhood. Leaves and twigs from the many trees seem to be fodder for nightly bonfires and fire pits around here. I grew up in the country and there's something about an outdoors fire that has always excited me, even when the temperatures were frosty. All the better to grab a warm blanket and a stick for an impromptu wiener roast.

I guess that's why I love my vintage wool plaid blankets and those cuddly hooked ooak wool pillows. I found them quite awhile back at a local annual craft fair; just wish I could use them for a longer period of time than just the few weeks in November. Where I live in Missouri, it's still too warm in early October for wool anything. November is another story. We've been in the 20's at night this week.

I love layering vintage quilts, blankets and linens on these white wicker pieces,
then adding texture and more pattern with pillows.
The Garden Room is a blank slate for seasonal fun.

Back to the coffee table/bench, I've tweaked the vignette a bit and swapped out the amber bottle with a rusted metal lantern. I have all the little elements in my white wooden cottage tray. A white ironstone turkey tureen is sitting on a very old transferware platter.

Here's a pic from earlier this Fall with the Embracing Fall Blog Hop

Looking back through my Fall photos I found this one from 2011. An old Adirondack chair that fell apart a couple of years later. It didn't just fall apart, but the legs were rotten and spongy so there was no fixing it. ahhhh, I loved that chippy white paint.

This is leaf peak weekend here in SW Missouri,
I'm hoping to get out to see some beautiful color
before it's gone.
Have a great weekend!

Hope to see you Monday evening!

  1. Your plaids and hooked pillows are pretty. I really love the sheep pillow. I'm like you I grew up in the country on a large farm. It was the good life. And the smell of burning wood is cozy. BUT....not like California fires. So sad! We here in NC have been in 20's at night. Tomorrow we're suppose to be 63 daytime.
