The Fall Dining Room and Needlepoint Pumpkins

It's now October, but since the weather hasn't been very Fall-like, I'm still feeling the need for the "lighter version" of Fall Decor. When I was first adding Fall to the Dining Room I was going for Fall colors, but not anything dark and heavy. I don't want a bunch of that when it's 90 degrees outside. I started thinking about maybe using a vintage print on the buffet that had all the Fall feels, but still added some lighter color and a little "white".

This big window in the Dining Room lets in a lot of wonderful northern light, but the way the furniture is positioned it's not easy to close the draperies in the evening. We live on a well traveled street and I don't mind having a little something to block the view in. Also we're on a curve of the street and car lights often hit my husband in the face in the evening while he's watching TV. bummer. So that's another reason why having a print leaning against the window works in here.

I found two "companion" fruit still life very old chromolithographs quite a few years ago, and bought them both because they were a steal. The frames were new and just a little too bright gold. I did a dry brush chalk paint over the crackled gold to tone it down and show off the bright print in blues, greens, and lighter colors.

Keeping it light, I've had this ironstone tureen and platter on the buffet for the last 5 years or so. (here and at the last house) It usually gets a little seasonal floral adornment, and this time of year it's some preserved Fall leaves.

Do you ever splurge a little on a piece of seasonal decor? or maybe even two pieces? Well, I'd seen these amazing handmade vintage needlepoint pumpkins the last few years here on the blogs and Instagram, but hadn't found the details. I assumed they were creations only sold in boutique shops.

This year I started seeing them again and did a little digging. Since I love old needlepoint footstools, it was a spontaneous "Fall-in-Love" moment. I managed to acquire two similar ones that are being honored on an ironstone compote and a vintage milk glass cake stand.

Everything takes on new importance when

under a glass cloche.

I still have my late Summer/ early Fall tablerunner on the Dining Room table, but I'm about ready for something different. I like layering linens on this table, so I'll come up with something a little more "Autumn-y" soon.

In the below pic you can see that I still have Sunflowers in the faux Hydrangea mix in the metal Italian basket. I had added a few Fall leaves and berries as accents to give things a little more Autumn color.

Then I added in more leaves, but last week I had a major sunflower removal day and just went with Hydrangeas and Fall leaves. All my early Fall arrangements included Sunflowers so that sort of said Good-bye to Summer for me.

So it's Fall, but still light and bright!

Now, I'm scratching my head over what I'll use next on the table.

I really love my big basket, and it makes such a statement that it tends to stay put.
