This big window in the Dining Room lets in a lot of wonderful northern light, but the way the furniture is positioned it's not easy to close the draperies in the evening. We live on a well traveled street and I don't mind having a little something to block the view in. Also we're on a curve of the street and car lights often hit my husband in the face in the evening while he's watching TV. bummer. So that's another reason why having a print leaning against the window works in here.
I found two "companion" fruit still life very old chromolithographs quite a few years ago, and bought them both because they were a steal. The frames were new and just a little too bright gold. I did a dry brush chalk paint over the crackled gold to tone it down and show off the bright print in blues, greens, and lighter colors.
Keeping it light, I've had this ironstone tureen and platter on the buffet for the last 5 years or so. (here and at the last house) It usually gets a little seasonal floral adornment, and this time of year it's some preserved Fall leaves.
Do you ever splurge a little on a piece of seasonal decor? or maybe even two pieces? Well, I'd seen these amazing handmade vintage needlepoint pumpkins the last few years here on the blogs and Instagram, but hadn't found the details. I assumed they were creations only sold in boutique shops.
This year I started seeing them again and did a little digging. Since I love old needlepoint footstools, it was a spontaneous "Fall-in-Love" moment. I managed to acquire two similar ones that are being honored on an ironstone compote and a vintage milk glass cake stand.
Everything takes on new importance when
under a glass cloche.
Then I added in more leaves, but last week I had a major sunflower removal day and just went with Hydrangeas and Fall leaves. All my early Fall arrangements included Sunflowers so that sort of said Good-bye to Summer for me.
So it's Fall, but still light and bright!
Now, I'm scratching my head over what I'll use next on the table.
I really love my big basket, and it makes such a statement that it tends to stay put.
Here's my post on my favorite Fall corner in the Dining Room
from last week.
this isn't a sponsored post, but sharing sources for Fall pretties.

Everything is so pretty and those needlepoint pumpkins are amazing.
ReplyDeleteLove your dining room all pretty for fall. Of course I love those slipcovered chairs too! The fabric pumpkin is so pretty and the still life is gorgeous with all the other decor. You can really put a nice vignette together Debra. Love all of this. Light and pretty for fall.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday.
Hugs.
Kris
This is so pretty, Debra! Loving the old still life and needlepoint pumpkins and I love the way you used the leaves! It definitely feels like fall here...38 degrees tonight...
ReplyDeleteLove the needlepoint pumpkins. They remind me of my mom. Your dining room looks simply lovely.
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of needlepoint. I doubt that I could make a pumpkin out of one of my needlepoint pillows but I may need to hop on over and buy one from her. Thanks for sharing the link. Your dining room looks amazing. I really hope we get some cooler weather soon. This is horrible. All my flowers are dead or dying. I love the chromolithograph.
ReplyDeleteDebra,
ReplyDeleteThat vintage print is stunning!
I do love the softer, subtle hues from the print!
Hadn't seen a needlepoint pumpkin before, quite intriguing!
Great autumnal decor!
Truly inspiring!
Pat

ReplyDeleteThe needle point pumpkins are so pretty and your dining room is so welcoming with all the fall touches! Happy Autumn!
ReplyDeleteDebra, your dining room is really pretty. I love Sharon's pumpkins and have bought several from her. They sell out FAST! She does beautiful pillows too, recycling needlepoints from the past. That's how I first found her.
ReplyDeleteWe were on vacation out West for 10 days and it was beautiful fall weather there. I am so relieved to have it here at home now. Like you, we're learning how the light travels in our new place, and decorating is a fun, new adventure. I am so enjoying seeing your enthusiasm in what you're doing.
Love the needlepoint pumpkin, the painting and that PEAR! Simply fabulous!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful dining room! Loved all the thoughtful detail you put into it. Gonna be on the lookout for a fall colored needlepoint to transform now. Been used $1 clothes from Goodwill and having lots of fun making pumpkins!
ReplyDeleteDebra, I'm a fan of needlepoint pumpkins too. I bought mine online from Sharon Wollman several years ago, the first year she was making them. I added more the next two years. They are addictive. Being one who stitches, I also appreciate the time that goes into making any needlepoint. Yours are very pretty. I love the chair covers you have too. Thanks for sharing.
