Old Pie Safe becomes the Holiday Cupboard

A few weeks ago when I did a post in the Garden Room I mentioned that I was hoping to clear out this old pie safe that was a "glorified" storage space, and decorate it for Fall. Well, I got myself busy and relocated a lot of the vintage pottery and pieces to a built-in cabinet in the Laundry/with a Bath Room. I'm glad I made the effort because it will be a fun place to decorate for the seasons.

Here it was in late August.
If you look closely behind the doors,
you can see that inside it was a little disorganized and messy.

This was one of the pieces of furniture that I painted last Fall hoping that I would be able to use again. It had been in my office at 3 houses ago, then in the kitchen at the lease house, and hidden in the basement in the last house. It hung in there and now, yay, it will get to be front and center again!

I'm a tchotchke collector, at least I used to be until I ran out of space, but since I love squirrels and chipmunks so much I would grab any little figurine that I might find on my flea market trips. Salt and pepper shakers are a fun vintage item to collect.

The little Chipmunk on the Stump is Fitz and Floyd.
The stump is the Salt shaker and the chipmunk is the Pepper.

I wanted to mix my Ironstone pitcher and creamer collection, with a few Brown Transfer ware Aesthetic pieces and then some Fall tins, books, a few candles, and an old needlepoint piece of birds that contains the color palette of Autumn.

Remember Crabtree and Evelyn biscuit tins?
I have a few and love this dark and moody Rembrandt-esq with fruit.

If you've been with me for the long haul (10 years now) you might remember I used to have a "Holiday Cupboard" in my lower level sitting room. I had so much fun bringing together seasonal displays using books and pottery with all things vintage. I can see this will be much the same thing... but with a better camera and lighting!

We're hearing a forecast for Friday through Sunday for several good rains and about a 15 degree temp drop. I'm so glad because it's so dry here and my allergies have been horrible! My backyard plantings have about "bit the dust" literally. Hope you're scheduled to get some cool weather too!

Hope to see you Monday Evening for All About Home.

  6. Oh, I love this cabinet display! The brown transferware and ivory pitchers.....makes me want to run back to my storage unit and pull more things. I can't wait till I can get the little things styled here in the condo. Those tins and needlepoints really add nice punches with both their color and black (I love black!). Looks like you're all set!
