Kitchen and Sitting Area Fall Home Tour

I think I've shared the rest of the house last week on two Fall Tours, so today I have some pics of my Kitchen and the little Sitting Area that adjoins it. It's my favorite place to decorate for the seasons, and I seem to spend most of my time here, so come on in!

My little wicker settee and the Baker's Rack are always a fun part of my Seasonal Decor change ups. I enjoy picking out the pillow and quilt combination for the settee, and I try to do something a little  different each Fall. The quilt usually dictates the colors that I use, but really... I'm a traditional Fall Color kind of gal. This time I'm using my very first quilt purchase that I bought years ago in Marietta, Georgia when we lived down there in the mid-80's. It's always a favorite of mine during the Fall season because of it's Fall colors with gold stripes and varied fabrics in the "Flying Geese" pattern.

My vintage ticking feather pillow has become a fixture here, as it seems to "go" with almost everything. The brown floral Waverly print pillows match the curtains from our old house. I bought them from my younger daughter when she moved, so I never had them to compliment the curtains, but now I use them all during the Fall.

I Restyled the new Fall Wreath on the old door, and did a post on it's "iffy" transformation. Just a note to let you know... some of these kitchen pics were taken before I added in the Hydrangeas, so don't get confused, the photos were just taken a couple of weeks ago.

I'm still using the old crate that I found earlier this summer, and my Ticking fabric pumpkin from  Becky at Flax and Willow (previously Timewashed) is on another one of my transferware cupcake stands.

An old Apothecary bottle with a Pumpkin Seed Packet graphic that I made several years ago, and one of my HL olive buckets is now holding one of my little ivies.

I brought the little "beat up" watering can in from the Dining Room and filled it with a handful of faux Fall foliage. (my favorite way to decorate for Fall)

It makes for a super easy centerpiece that you can pick up and move several times a day.

I don't take pics of my kitchen prep area often, because it's sort of small, and usually cluttered with the essentials. But today I cleared things off a bit so you could see that I actually do have a kitchen. I have my collection of Black Tole Trays here to do a cover-up on the backsplash, which I'm not fond of and came with the house. We talked about re-doing it, but we were already running behind schedule and over budget, so we just left it. Wish I'd have re-thought that concept.

I ordered these barstools from Penney's when we first moved in but I don't know that I ever mentioned them. It's a tight space so I needed stools that tucked under the counter.

Here's my fave Restoration Hardware wc.

The painted cabinets tend to look white in photos, but they are really a light greige/gray color called Pale Oak from Benjamin Moore. "Advance" one of their newer paints, is formulated specifically for kitchen cabinets. It's great paint and I'd do it again!

Funny, I didn't notice the uneven towels until I edited the pics, sorry.

We have this wonky cabinet door that we've tried to fix several times, I guess it's one of those things that needs a professional touch, unfortunately that comes with a professional price tag on it. So it keeps getting put off... maybe when I have the backsplash done.

My Animal Tureens live up here on top of the cabinets.

I keep this silver tray here,
and change up the little items for the Holidays and Seasons.

(I think Miss Wrigley is contemplating a jump to the table)

I had wanted a lighted twig pumpkin from Pottery Barn,
but they don't have them this year,
so I grabbed this one from HL with a 40% off coupon.

I found this little plaid flannel pumpkin a few years ago shopping on one of our RV trips. No, we haven't been able to camp for the last two summers because of my head and neck problem. My poor hubby, he's a good and patient guy.

I still haven't found any Bittersweet around yet this year, so I improvised by tying some old scraggly pieces together with gardener's twine. I love this stuff, but it costs a fortune in order to get someone to brave the patches of poison ivy that tends to grow around it.

A few dried Hydrangeas with preserved leaves from my bush by the patio.

You can see the two Fall Home Tours Here and Here.

I finally got a hook back up on the front door,
so hopefully I'll have some Fall Porch Pics this next week.

I'll be posting a combined Fall Home Tour soon, too.

And thanks for the tips on conditioning the twiggy fishing basket,
I think I may have tried an easy fix that helped a bunch.

Have a great weekend!

  1. I enjoyed the tour so much, Debra. The vintage ticking pillow looks plush and comfy, and I adore the ticking fabric pumpkin. The quilt and door add so much charm and tell a story. Your kitchen is beautiful, and the tole trays are magnificent. The white animal collection atop the cabinet is full of charm. I love the views into your kitchen and looking out. I would love spending time in these warm, welcoming, and beautiful spaces,

  2. I love this part of your home, Debra, and I would understandably spend much of my time there too. So many pretty things to comment on...the silver tray on counter, the baker's rack, all the textiles, love that bittersweet and top of cabinet vignette, and also your animals perched. My eyes were drawn right to those. You really put a lot of work into the details. May be now that I've cleared a few things out with the yard sale and temps are a bit cooler, I'll feel like fluffing a little more...then again, maybe I'll pretend to be a minimalist this fall. ;)
