On the Mantel with Pears and Pumpkins

So, I had to look back through my list of posts to see exactly when I had last shared what was happening on the mantel. Last Christmas? you're kidding me? Basically, I've left the main elements the same and have just changed up a few things in the center. I have to drag out a step stool and climb around to work on this monster, so it's just been easier to ignore it.

I leave the mirror up all the time; actually it's bolted to the wall so it's not going anywhere easily.(hopefully). Same for the Boxwood wreath and the monogram. I can't reach them so they're permanent. Last Christmas I thought I'd put up my Pottery Barn lanterns and now they too are sort of semi-permanent. Lazy woman's way to decorate...

But that still leaves me with lots of space to fill up in the middle.
I knew I wanted to use my grouping of white pumpkins,
but it still needed something else;
something with a little color.

Pears to the rescue, and an antique ironstone rectangular tureen.

The pumpkins needed some height variation,
so I used one of my white painted vintage boxes
and a few discarded shipping boxes covered in tissue paper.

I'm a tissue paper "hoarder"...
Unless it's totally ripped up I squirrel it away.
You just never know when you'll need something for
"stuffing" or "filling" or "covering".
Tissue paper covers a "multitude of sins"
... or boxes,
as the case may be.

I have the same problem with ribbon.
I love mixing and matching colors and patterns.

I've paired this cream and gold polka dot
with some orange plaid on the topiaries on the hearth.

Gotta have some Bittersweet
and some Autumn Leaves

Be sure and be here next week
 for the Harvest Home Tour.
