Summer Buffet Scape with Ticking Tablerunner and Sunflowers

A few weeks ago I shared some inspiration of one of my favorite Late Summer decor combos; Indigo Ticking Stripes with anything "Sunflowers". Ticking brings to mind lazy breezy summer afternoons on the porch swing, and Sunflowers are those wonderful happy faces that let us know that Fall isn't too far away.

I have a cupboard full of mismatched ironstone and transferware, and that includes a stack of old platters that I use for cookouts. A good steak or Bar-B-Que requires something substantial so I put a few things together for an impromptu Summer gathering.

Before I brought out the tableware,
I took a few pics of my Ticking Table runner
and my French Basket with Hydrangeas and Sunflowers.

My vintage chalkware Mama Hen thought she'd join in and strut her stuff.

I left the selvages "as is" and just washed and ironed the fabric
then layered it over a off white piece of burlap.

I kept it simple with some old Libby stemware
in a pretty aqua green and napkins in a Country French floral.

A couple of family ironstone pitchers hold the cutlery.

I don't think I've shared this old breadboard before.
I've had it for years and it makes a great base
for a quick spread of cheeses, sausages, olives and condiments .
Also, here are a few old pieces for serving.

One of the things I love on this breadboard is that it has
old cabinet hardware attached, to make it a great tray.

Sunflowers and Hydrangeas are my "go-to" flower combination for this time of year.
Then when you want to add a little "Fall" to the mix,
just place in a few Fall leaves, and you're on your way!

I'm working on a few things that will easily transition to Fall...
Happy Weekend!

  4. Looks beautiful. I put some sunflowers in the basket that hangs on my front door, but haven't done anything else yet. I'm ready for fall though! Done with heat and humidity!

  15. There is something so pretty in the laying out of dishware items for a meal ...whether they are to be used for that purpose or just for decoration. I really like how you have set your table display with the sunflowers as a backdrop. The napkins are lovely and such classic ironstone pieces add the perfect touch.

  18. Hi Debra, I have to say I don't usually get too excited about tablescapes but this one sure caught my eye. I love the ticking and the white hen! And those ruffled slipcovers. Sweet. Can you believe it's almost September? Hugs,

  19. Debra, I love ticking and adore the raw edge look on your runner. I have tan ticking on my table right now. I love how you've pulled out the plates buffet style. The bread board is a wonderful piece and I love the apple design on the salad plates! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
