Decorating for the 4th can be a combination of Patriotic Color, it doesn't have to be all about the stars and stripes. I love vintage things mixed in, so today and tomorrow I'll be sharing how to have the feel of a Patriotic Summer with using lots of red, white, and blue.
I have several vintage "retired" flags I use with great respect and honor. Many of us have discussed our viewpoint on this matter of using vintage flags in decor. I value the flag, and admire it. Showing it off is one of the ways I pay tribute to our American Heritage.
Last post, I was sharing how I was painting out a cute little antique oak table for the kitchen. The larger table was more than we need right now. Most of the time it's just the two of us, and we were continually having to squeeze around it. I love the bigger table, but it's dismantled and in our storage room downstairs if we want to use it again. For now, I'm loving all the extra space this small one gives us.
I brought in my picket fence gate that I'd had in the sunporch at the old house. Since Spring it had been under the deck on the lower level patio, but it was getting too much "weather" where it was sitting and I didn't want it to rot. You may be wondering where my cute little white table is, well, it had to go back to my office unfortunately. It was too close to the French door to the deck, and I decided to do something different, I'll share that a little later this week. I needed a place for the extra chair ( I have one at my built in desk along the counter wall) I've decided the little white table is still a good piece for "vignetting" so I'll just have to do that in my studio. so, are you all totally confused now?
Here's my picket fence gate on the sunporch a few years ago, here
My vintage red watering can with an apple applique is absolutely "Summer".

Beautiful room Debra!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty and pops against the lighter colors. I just finished our patriotic porch and wish I could leave the look up all year!
ReplyDeleteThe round table looks great:-)
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th of July:-) Long time ago I spent this day in Washington D.C. - it was great to celebrate in the capital city of the USA. Unforgettable:-)
Greetings:-)
It looks great and everything does pop! I especially love that picture of the young lady and the sheep! ; )
ReplyDeleteOh I love your sitting room. I agree its so easier to decorate. Especially if you have lots of reds that can play double duty!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking at Cozy House. I'd love to join your party. I'll put the button on my blog.
Have a great week.
My heart beats red, white and blue Debra! Love your patriotic sunroom and commemorative flags and pillows. ♥
ReplyDeleteI really love the red floral patterns mixed with the flags, Debra. You have such a talent for bringing unique personality to your spaces and avoiding the cliches.
ReplyDeleteYour Patriotic sitting room looks so pretty Debra and I love the way the smaller table looks in their too!
ReplyDeleteDebra,
ReplyDeleteYour sitting area is definitely taking on the feel of your previous sun porch. The smaller white table helps give the feel of a porch (in my view). All of your flag decor is fantastic for the 4th of July.
Judith
Looks great Debra...love all of your quilts!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Cindy
Debra, I love how you've incorporated the flags into your decor! And that picket fence makes a great 'backdrop'! :)

You've done such a great job. Every year I tell myself I'm going to decorate for the 4th but it NEVER happens. June is just too busy for us and then it's off to grandma's for the 4th.
ReplyDeleteLove how patriotic your sitting room looks Debra!!! Looks great!
ReplyDeleteI love all of your patriotic touches to your dining room. The flag pillow with the blue and white ticking is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I love what you did here! And you know what? I really like those deep red with fruit pillows. And yes, I was confused, but backtracking with links helps us slower kids. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty and vintage and very, very 4th of July.
ReplyDeleteI love the "old world" detail. :)
This is just so pretty, I had to pin it to BHG, because it looks like it belongs in their mag. Happy 4th!
ReplyDeleteI love your room! Have a wonderful 4th of July.

Your patriotic sitting room is charming. I agree with you about using flags in a respectful manner.
ReplyDeleteYour sitting room is so tasteful and pretty. I love it when folks celebrate America throughout their homes. Well done!
ReplyDeleteLove the picket fence Debra. Glad you brought it back in! I too love displaying my flags and cherish them! The little table is perfect and you've got me thinking. I left my small white table at our previous home for my son. Wondering if they would want to trade for my larger one for a while? Thanks for sharing with SYC.
