Patriotic Sitting Room

One of my favorite times to really go over the top in my sitting area decor is for the 4th of July. Patriotic decor is a natural when you have white or neutrals as a backdrop. I love layering on the old quilts and pillows in some red/white/blue. I've been trying to give this kitchen room sitting space the feel of my old sunporch, since I don't have one at this house.

Decorating for the 4th can be a combination of Patriotic Color, it doesn't have to be all about the stars and stripes. I love vintage things mixed in, so today and tomorrow I'll be sharing how to have the feel of a Patriotic Summer with using lots of red, white, and blue.

I have several vintage "retired" flags I use with great respect and honor. Many of us have discussed our viewpoint on this matter of using vintage flags in decor. I value the flag, and admire it. Showing it off is one of the ways I pay tribute to our American Heritage.

Last post, I was sharing how I was painting out a cute little antique oak table for the kitchen. The larger table was more than we need right now. Most of the time it's just the two of us, and we were continually having to squeeze around it. I love the bigger table, but it's dismantled and in our storage room downstairs if we want to use it again. For now, I'm loving all the extra space this small one gives us.

I brought in my picket fence gate that I'd had in the sunporch at the old house. Since Spring it had been under the deck on the lower level patio, but it was getting too much "weather" where it was sitting and I didn't want it to rot. You may be wondering where my cute little white table is, well, it had to go back to my office unfortunately. It was too close to the French door to the deck, and I decided to do something different, I'll share that a little later this week. I needed a place for the extra chair ( I have one at my built in desk along the counter wall) I've decided the little white table is still a good piece for "vignetting" so I'll just have to do that in my studio. so, are you all totally confused now?
