Decorating with Seasonal Botanical Prints

Hi Everyone, I hope you had a wonderful Easter! We had an early dinner/late lunch at my sister's. What would you call that...Dunch? Linner? Since there aren't any little ones running around, (except their doggy, and you can't call Harley, little), things were pretty low key, and I got to enjoy my belated vanilla coconut cake. yum.

One of the things I love about decorating, and especailly using vintage items, is to keep things Seasonal. I don't have near as much space to work with now, but my Kitchen Sitting Area and the Entry are two easy areas to have fun with.

I wanted to use some flowers and botanical prints to "Spring" things up a little in the sitting area., So I found this vintage print of "God Bless Our Home" in my stash that is surrounded with colorful flowers in a wreath design. Then I found another vintage frame in gold that needed some freshening up. I used my technique from repainting these antique frames, but wanted to go a lighter gray.

I started with a coat of darker gray paint, then a coat of a lighter gray paint. Sorry I cant't be specific, I just mix up what I have on hand. I think I used our wall paint and then a mix of that and ASCP Pure White for the top coat; then highlight with some of this concoction below. I just use my finger to mix and apply. That's the easiest way for me. You could use a small cotton cloth, but I get a better result when I can "feel" how it's going on.

I didn't take the print out of the frame,
I just used some packing tape on top of the glass
to keep from having to clean much of the paint off.

This frame was pretty plain,
and it needed a little definition.
So a little sanding was all it took to let the vintage gold show through.

I decided to take off my sheep head for now,
so I could use a botanical print here on the old door instead.

I want to be able to change things out easily,
so I used a little Scotch tape rolled up sparingly on the back of the print.

There isn't any glass over this print. It would be pretty if there was, but since I'll be changing the print out in a bit, I opted to leave it "as is". Then I can easily replace it with another Seasonal print. These are from the reproduction coffee table book, "Taschen Book of Plants". Mine came from Z Gallerie about 8 years ago. It's a lovely book but I planned all along to use it as a source for botanical prints.

These look like "dancing" tulips to me.

I think this was mid-March, right before I put up the botanical prints.
Things change in a hurry, here.
I'll share more on how the prints look in here later this week.

I love what you did to repurpose your frames with a lighter shade of grey paint, dear friend!!!
I have several in Studio One that were previously made into chalkboards, so~o~o you've given me an idea.
Those "dancing tulips' are exquisite within the frame!!!

  22. They do look like dancing tulips. Like something from a Disney movie. The print with the frame works together and is very spring like. I also love a good botanical print.
