Summer Florals

I've mentioned how I like to keep my floral arrangements current with the seasons, so a few weeks ago I got around to changing out all my silk flowers to be in keeping with Early Summer. I like the look of "just picked and stuck in a container with casual abandon". To me, that concept makes all those faux flowers look a little more "real" and a lot less "faux".

Daisies are the flower du jour here in the Entry,
along with some budded branches.
I like keeping this heavy old iron urn here with the sticks,
then I just change out the flowers for each new season.

This is a spot where a "complimentary" print on the console
also changes with the season.

On the other side of the Entry next to the door is my big white wicker basket
filled with green hydrangeas and the grape vine twigs.

That big basket on the little Eastlake dresser keeps the kitties
from using it as a perch for front porch viewing.
(especially in nesting season)
I have found it on the floor on numerous occasions
when they feel like putting their little furry carcasses in grave danger.

Here's an old basket with wheels that I haven't shared very often.
It still has some faux Dogwood branches, but they were white so they're still here.
(Dogwoods in late June? what's wrong with me?)

In the Living Room I traded out the windowbox for the basket,
now filled with another boatload of green hydrangeas and ivy.
(when in doubt, a hydrangea will work)

(the windowbox is currently back on the Dining Room table
with a Patriotic theme)

Love this old Frenchy look laundry basket.

Last Fall I had a running joke about my mantel...
I had the "Early Fall" mantel,
the "Fall" mantel,
The "Fall/Halloween" mantel,
and then the "Fall/Thanksgiving" mantel.

This would be the "Early Summer" mantel...

Whitewashed Wolff pottery vases filled with
 flowering branches and white Viburnum.

Another hint that it's still "Early Summer" is that there are still "birdie" nests out.
This will change soon.
I have an idea brewing.

Next up will be Black-Eyed Susans and Sunflowers,
with a little color added.
...stay tuned.

I hear thru the grapevine that soon Google Reader will be gone,
so if you follow me there, please switch over to another reader
hanging out on the sidebar.
thanks you all!

  2. Hi Debra... first of all, I think ONLY Reader is going away, not followers... reader was something different blogger had, where you read all your blogs in one place, and never even went to the individual blog... and you also could not see the comments... someone correct me if I am wrong, but I do not think "Followers" is going away... they would be idiots to do that! (hmmm... then again, it is blogger!)... I hope I am not wrong... love your changes for each season... I think you should write a book on "Mantels for All Seasons"... I would buy the first one!... xoxo Julie Marie

  10. I just love all your little vignettes Debra, you do a wonderful job of combining things for such a beautiful effect!! Love your mantel so much, I have been wanting to lighten my brick and paint the mantel for years and so far haven't gotten up the courage! Right now, in the process of trying to find two very comfortable, yet affordable recliners that don't look like they belong in a spaceship!! Kind of a real challenge. I like comfort, but I do have my limits ;). Can't wait to see all the sunflowers, but I LOVE hydrangeas so much. Thanks for sharing. Glad to hear that things are better with your husband. Blessings to you, Linda

  18. Oh Debra! I'm always so amazed at how well you put things together and I end up just staring and studying your vignettes so that I can hopefully through osmosis learn how to do it better in my home. LOL! Truly everything is gorgeous! :-)

  21. Your arrangements are beautiful, Debra. You have so many wonderful containers to use for your floral designs.
I especially like the French laundry basket.
How neat that you have a mantle that you can change with every season, and in between season, too.

  22. I LOVE what you've done in your entry! We moved into our new house & I just can not get in the swing of decorating. I DON'T want it to look like the other house so I don't want to use the same things. And I just don't know what to do. SO.... I'm letting myself rest & mull it over. Things are bare & that's OK! I'll live through you for now. HUGS!

  28. Faux flowers have come a long way, haven't they! They are so realistic now that it's hard to tell what's real or not! I love the way you brighten up your home with them!

  29. Debra,
I adore your faux floral for "Early Summer", dear friend!!!
Creamy ivory, green and white make for coolness in one's minds eye, indeed!!!
Like you, I'm (almost) ready to bring out the Sunflowers and the black~eyed Susan's!!! Checked the Sunflower Garden this morning and we have some huge buds, but no blooms yet!
Chuckles loomed about the Home Office as I read of your kitties favorite viewing spot!!!
Have a "cool" day. . .indoors or out!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat

  31. I love each one just wouldn't be able to pick a favorite. You must have a good source for artificial flowers they certainly don't look
Michael's. Our Hobby Lobby will have a few of the nice paper wrapped stems but they are far and few between. You are an inspiration. Kathy

  32. Love your style Debra. Always drool over that moss O. I really need to try and make one. I loved seeing your mantle change frequently. I say hey, it needs to be dusted, so why not? Love the cart on wheels. I had one once and I use it as a garbage out on my deck. Finally fell apart. What was I thinking? lol! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
