After looking at my Dining Room for this last week, I realized I needed a change. One day things look fine, the next day you want to totally start over. So first, down came the honkin' window box...now what? Whatever is on this table needs to be substantial, at least I feel like it does. So I grabbed the old basket from under the buffet, white poinsettias and all. OK, so maybe all the mental energy I had was directed at finding a new centerpiece.
I think I'll keep the grain sack runner here until after Valentine's Day.
It does have a red stripe, after all.
And I'm keeping the redwork tablecloth on the buffet,
I just decluttered a little from this photo.
I looked at it closely and realized
that there were little hearts woven into the design.
Why hadn't I noticed that before?
And the faux chalkboard above the sideboard in the Hall
got it's new message, compliments of my sweet sis,
Happy New Year!
Other than that, I just removed the white feather tree
and replaced it with the iron urn of faux paperwhites.
OK, so that wasn't all that drastic.
A few simple changes were all that I needed...
this week.
How about you...
does your brain need a vacation?
Thank goodness I have all of you out there
that are on top of your game.
Now, I'll be moving on to the Living Room...
my mantel needs some h.e.l.p.
Great turnout for the first
Be Inspired Friday!
thanks guys!
(I really needed it;
the inspiration that is.)
joining in with these parties:
xoxo,
me
Love your changes. If I ever get caught up, I want to start doing your parties. I still enjoy looking at them, though.
ReplyDeleteLove that basket.
Very pretty Debra... I just can't get goin'... I've had a darn cold since the day after Christmas... I did get my decorations all put away though... and I had to laugh at your "Hoover" bag... mine is full of the same, only dog hair instead of cat hair!... your table runner is so pretty with the little red hearts!... xoxo Julie Marie
ReplyDeleteIt looks great Debra! I love the basket on the dining table and the chalkboard with the wreath.
ReplyDeleteWell done!
Happy New Year.
Pam
Looks beautiful Debra. I know what you mean though. I go through the same thing. In fact I see I just start crawling into Valentines day with some splashes of red here and there. Happy New year!
ReplyDeleteDebra, this all looks perfect for January. Wish I could make some simple tweaks. I'm at a loss for what to do on my mantel. I removed the greens, but left the simple white bowl of pine cones. It looks bare, so need to get some inspiration going on what to do.
ReplyDeleteYour redwork tablecloth makes my heart sing and gives me an idea. I have some redwork tea towels that I need to incorporate in some way in my dining room. I like your vignette on the sideboard with the tool carrier filled with flatware and dishes. This post is full of inspiration for me. Thank you, my friend! ~ Sarah
Love your changes Debra! I am doing that a bit too.It feels good to move things around, change things and in some areas getting rid of things too LOL!
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend!
xx
Anne
My kind of images....I need you to teach me how to layer decor...I feel like our house has a cold feeling...while yours exudes warmth.
ReplyDeleteYour changes look good, love the warmth of the large basket!! I have been in the basement (the abyss) cleaning, sorting and organizing, and have most of Christmas put away. Left out greens and pine cones and some trinkets for color. Have also left out the faux paperwhites. Have to iron clean linens now!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove what you have done! I am going to take inspiration from you!
ReplyDeleteLooks great!
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh, so much beautiful, so much inspiration!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty and the touches of red will be perfect for Valentines. Your sister has a talent chalk-writing.
ReplyDeleteRight there with you with the cat hair. I'm in my kitchen right now trying to get the damage undone.
ReplyDeleteLove the tablecloth with hearts. So sweet. Everything looks great. Happy New Year. Enjoy the down time!
ReplyDeleteKaren
I love your new fresh look, Debra! I am taking Christmas down today and of course, fretting over what I want to do after everything is cleared out. Hopefully I will get a vision!
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend!
XO,
Jane
Debra, beautiful centerpieces and vignettes. Love your style.
ReplyDeleteDeb, don't mess with perfection! It looks awesome! You deserve a little coasting!!!! So so beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks lovely, Debra! Love your transferware. I haven't put anything together yet since I took the Christmas stuff down. I am keeping some red things out, too, for Valentine's Day. A red wood tote I had out for Christmas will stay out until Valentines. I just need to figure out what to put in it!
ReplyDeleteBy the way Debra, when you finish your living room and mantle --- come on over to my house. I don't even know where to begin after these couple of months!!
ReplyDeleteI just removed parts of my Christmas decor and left what I could (snow men) to carry me til time to decorate for valentines.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
i think it all looks nice and wintery and simple. Funny that you never noticed the hearts before. Valentines will be here before we know it!
ReplyDeleteI love the changes you made. I like the touches of red you added. They look good against the white. I think you can use that year round! I've been in a cleaning out mood too. I just worked on my youngest son's room and now have a huge stash to take to Goodwill tomorrow! I also have alot of stuff to take to the consignment store. I think it's a good way to start the new year. Gives you a clean slate to start with.
ReplyDeleteMy brain needs a jump start too! My dining room table is completely bare...I really need to get in the groove. Happy New Year Debra!
ReplyDeleteMy brain needs some rest lately! Then I'll worry about the jump start. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love the burlap runner with the red stripe. Red is good at any time, especially in the winter when we need some color!
Such a pretty room Debra, love your urn full of paper whites!
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a GREAT weekend!
Cindy
Oh! If this is therapy can I get a life time membership. So beautiful. I have surely missed visiting. Take Care. Cheers SpecialK XoXo
ReplyDeleteLooks gorgeous. I am just making really simple changes too. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI am trying to get going:) It is all churning in my brain but hasn't made it to my hands yet! You are inspiring me to get the lead out! Have a blessed day dear Friend, HUGS!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of mantles, I noticed I still have a flower arrangement of glittered poinsettias there that I forgot to put away with the Christmas decor. Arghhh.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your light and bright refittings ~ they're perfect for Valentines Day.
I do the same thing after Christmas. Take down everything but a few red linens. And clean up all the dust that's been hiding under the Christmas decor. Achoo!
ReplyDeleteHi Debra, I am doing some more of my catch up with my blogging friends. I thought about trying to go to the nursing home to see hubby, but the knee is still not cooperating. I don't want to push my luck. I enjoyed your pictures and I especially liked the basket of flowers. Have a wonderful day. Hugs and Prayers from your Missouri Friend.
ReplyDeleteI love this room. I totally understand, our "crazy" starts at Thanksgiving also and doesn't stop until New Years Day. Thankfully, I've already got most of my decorations packed up.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Sunday!
Cindy
It always takes me a few weeks after Christmas to decide what I want to do with my decor, yours looks lovely...
ReplyDeleteI love your changes- They are just right and not too over-the-top. I like things simplified after Christmas gets packed away. You did a wonderful job with everything. I am decompressing today after our unexpected company left..long day yesterday and I am ready for a break- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so pretty, Debra! I am walking around in a fog just looking at my home. Not sure where I'm going with this...lol! But, it's so much fun to come over and see your decor! Always beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI can so relate, except you are doing much better than me with the dining room table. Mine has nothing on it right now. I found myself walking through the house yesterday removing everything I didn't like and taking it up to the storage room. Now there are a lot of bare spaces that I need to rethink. Love your blog! Happy to have found you! Melinda
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you as well! Beautiful ideas! You mentioned 'cat hair'... so I hope those poinsettas arr ALSO faux... very poinsonous to cats.
ReplyDeleteIt all still looks so gorgeous. I know what you mean by "all the cat hair". I'm on a mission to clean that up right now too. Happy New Year to ya!
ReplyDeleteLove your grainsack tabelrunner looks great on your table and the hearts are so cute on the runner! I'm in the mist of redoing too, I think it just the month of January that does that to us nesters:)
ReplyDeleteI love the clean and simple look, Debra...perfect for brain vacation...I am with you there lol!
ReplyDeleteYour changes are beautiful, and I love the touches of red you left. That tablecloth is just gorgeous. I put the last of our Christmas decor away today and I've been cleaning and simplifying too. :-)
ReplyDeletePositively I need a jump start. Maybe next week?
ReplyDeleteBliss
I have it all down and in boxes. All that's left is, just like you, glitter and pet hair to vacuum up. TONS! Ugh.
ReplyDeleteThat runner and white arrangement look great!! You know I love white. So fresh and calming.
♥Linsey
Hmmm Im so with you, it is so therapeutical! :) LOVE the changes you brought to your nest. :)
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Your dining room was just beautiful as-is, but I definitely understand the need for a fresh start after the holidays! I love all of your white and red runners, and especially your chalkboard/wreath combo!
ReplyDeleteLove the basket of poinsettias and the grainsack runner! Simple, yet beautiful!
ReplyDeleteJenna @ rainonatinroof.com
Debra,
ReplyDeleteYour centerpiece looks marvelous!!!
I'm laughing...I understand the half~chewed berries and the cat hair in your vaccum!!!
I'll be back to see the new look on your mantle soon!!!
Fondly,
Pat
I don't mind poinsettias, real or faux, for awhile after Christmas. I still have a real one, red, on the buffet in my breakfast room and find it so cheerful. The runner on your buffet is so sweet with the little hearts. I really love that Valentine's Day gives us the opportunity to keep some red going on in our decor even after Christmas.
ReplyDeleteDeb, there you are featuring that beautiful lamb on your header again! I believe I asked you once where it came from, but don't remember a reply? Did you make him? I love him!
ReplyDeleteI'm always stumped in the new year as far as my decor goes. You've done a great job, Debra, with your beautiful tabletops. Love the reds you kept with your pretty whites.
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
I have a grain sack runner on my table too, but I really love the runner on your buffet!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Susan and Bentley

ReplyDeleteIt is so bright and cherry Debbie! Cat ugh. Believe it or not we actually have more puppy hair than kitty hair and we have two kitties. Thanx for joining THT!:)
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! Isn't it amazing what just a few changes can do?
ReplyDeleteHey! Guess what, Debra? I'm visiting from Timewashed! Love that basket on your table. Makes a big statement. Love that red and white runner too! Your room looks sensational! xx
ReplyDeleteLove the white poinsettias and the touches of red and hearts on the white cloth of yout buffet. So simple but it says a lot! Joan
ReplyDeleteGreat changes Debra. I so love the grain sack runner. Both linens will work great for Valentines. As much as I love Christmas I always look forward to less clutter. Actually feels kind of nice. Heaven knows that the brain sure can use a rest now and then. Sorry to tell it that soon I'll be on to Valentines. lol! Thanks for sharing with Share Your Cup.
