So I just had to resort to cheating...
Above my sideboard in the hallway is a perfect spot for a chalkboard. I wanted that look without all the work. sounds bad...but Hey, I just love all the ones you all are doing out there. And then there's the fact that I hate to think about all the hours put into coming up with a fabulous creation, only to have to wipe it down the week after Christmas!
So I just bought some black foam board at Michael's and then proceeded to enlist the help of my sis and her trusty Silhouette Machine.
I think it's pretty good.
Maybe not the real thing, but I love the look.
I bought the chalk markers, so hopefully at some point I can try to create a more "realistic" one that actually resembles a chalkboard design. But until then, I can pop this one out and then beg my sister to make me another one...maybe one that says "Happy New Year". Have I told you what a great sister I have?
Yep, she's the Best!
(she reads my blog, too)

Adore your faux chalk board. I'm with you. I keep thinking if I did one of those with all of that work and someone came by and accidently smeared it, I wouldn't be a happy camper at all.
ReplyDeleteI like your idea!!
Judy
I adore it, I love the frame and I'm the same mine never look like the neat ones I see. Loved to get one of those machines because that's how I'd do it all the time:) What a great sister you have!
ReplyDeleteGreat way for a faux look. I use my silhouette for projects like that too. Wonderful idea:)
ReplyDeleteThat's soo pretty Debra!... I ended up buying two cute already made chalkboards... one of mine still has a pumpkin I drew on it in chalk because it turned out kinda cute the first part of Autumn and I didn't want to erase it!... so it says Merry Christmas with a pumpkin on it!... I checked into making them and you are right... ALOT of work!... sisters are the best!... xoxo Julie Marie
ReplyDeleteIt looks great, I would have never known it was faux. I hear ya on things feeling 'rushed'.
ReplyDeleteDebra, it looks like a real chalk board and no one would know if you didn't tell us. Did not know there was black foam board. Good to know.
ReplyDeleteWell I must be living under a rock! I didn't know there was a trend in making faux chalkboards! I have never seen them before till now. I love it! I have a chalkboard area in my kitchen that I just recently "chalked" up a creation on. Nice to know there are other options out there if I ever want to persue them. I should try some chalk pens. Hmmmm....
ReplyDeleteDebra, It looks fantastic, without all the work! I think your sister did a great job! I always love seeing what creative ideas you have. Love the inspiration!!
ReplyDeleteJody
Debra you are too funny. What a clever idea, and I would've done the same thing if I even knew what a silhouette machine was. Hey, whatever works, right? We're getting our tree tonight and I just finished one of my mantels with lots more to do so I love a great short cut!
ReplyDeleteLeslie (aka Gwen Moss)
Great idea, Debra. This looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful, Debra. And besides, theirs isn't the real thing either. Mine are the real thing...real BEASTLY HEAVY thing. LOL But that's okay, cuz I can't bear to see real slate boards discarded from schools. They find a home at my place. It's kinda like an animal shelter for chalk boards. :-)
ReplyDeleteYOURS looks gorgeous and now I'm thinking that mine needs a pretty balsam wreath and berries! ♥
I love your faux chalkboard Debra. I'm for anything that saves time, money and yet looks beautiful...and this looks beautiful!!! LOVE IT!
ReplyDeletesending hugs...
I'm with you. This is exactly what I would do. It turned out great and of course, I love the sentiment...
ReplyDeleteThe frame is so gorgeous. The cheating paid off. The faux chalkboard is perfect.
ReplyDeleteWould have never known it was not a real chalkboard. Looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you.
:) What a great cheat! Nobody can tell the difference! It looks awesome in that pretty gold frame!
ReplyDeleteIt's a darn good cheat! I love it and the wreath around it looks so pretty.

doesnt matter, I love that look, and you did a spectacular job! :D
ReplyDeleteHugs,
It looks great! Very pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love all the chalkboard art out there, too, Debra. I don't think I could ever manage it myself though. Yours looks fantastic! I did vinyl on a large chalkboard I have. I do have an extra frame and some black foam board that I was thinking of doing one specific for Christmas though. I just found {on Pinterest} free downloads!
ReplyDeleteI think you did great!! Love the frame!! Love the time saving idea.

Sometimes it's okay to be a cheater! I seriously didn't realize it wasn't the real thing!
ReplyDeleteJeanine
I say: What's the difference? Looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Debra,
ReplyDeleteL O V E the look of your faux Chalkboard!
Fondly,
Pat
I love this Debra! I could do it with my Cricut, too, I think. Although when I made my Menu Tray, it didn't really take all that long, and the white paint pen technique I used was really easy. but mine is permanent, and this can be changed! Great idea, I had not seen it before, so it doesn't seem like cheating to me:)
ReplyDeletexo, Andrea
what a great idea, debra! i wouldn't have thought to use black foam board. love my silhouette--you can do so much with it!
ReplyDeleteVery VERY clever! I love it!
ReplyDeleteSheila

ReplyDeleteLove your idea of cheating-I want to sit next to you during the next test-lol It's part of my Saturday favorites so stop by to check it out-Have a great weekend-Claire
ReplyDeleteOkay Debra,I laughed about your true confession. I really thought it was a chalk board, but yours looks awesome and very real. I love your wording; it looks better than chalk to me! But the thing I'm focused on is that your sister actually reads your blog! Wait a minute, that didn't sound right. Your blog is beautiful, well-written and full of fab ideas, it's just that my family doesn't actually read mine. :0
ReplyDeleteHi Debra...I'm new to your blog...and love your "chalkboard"! I can't believe you didn't want to go through the 17 steps required to making your own! I recently found that you could buy sheets of chalkboard, from cabinet suppliers...but that's for another day/year.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!,
Barbara
