Whatcha got cookin'?

I've never tried using these for actually baking anything,
but they call my kitchen china cabinet home.

I once saw an image of these animal casseroles
lined up along one of Martha Stewart's kitchen ledges,
but I couldn't find it for this post.

(i have stacks of those suckers)

I've had the rabbit for about twenty years.
I made him when ceramics were all the rage.
Did any of you get caught up in that?
Wow, the ceramic tchotchkes we had!

The duck and chicken I have found since then on flea market excursions.

Now, I'm trying to remember if this is the tablecloth that
I stole borrowed from my sister. (?)

But today I thought I'd pretend
I was cooking something yummy for the casserole.
Hmmm... Hey, I know!
How about a "chicken" casserole...
I'm not really into rabbit or duck.

This poor little 30's Metropolitan Life Cook Book
got a little wet once when my sunroom leaked.
They do have some yummy recipes.

Anyone for Scalloped Turnips?

I received some of my Grandmother's painted wooden utensils,
so now I'm on the lookout for white ones.

I adore this cutting block, but the flower basket is too sweet to ruin.

Milk glass Hoosier Cabinet Salt Shaker.

OK, these are my faux cat chewed carrots.
After all, we are just pretending to cook.

Wow, I really enjoyed that pretend dinner.
Look, no calories!

  7. I'm impressed that you made that bunny. It's wonderful! I love these little animal shaped pieces too. I have a few hens on nests, ducks, etc. but all of mine are polychrome. I like the white ironstone one. Great collection.

  9. Better yet, my husband is the cook! He's not much for cutsy serving dishes however. However, your dishes would make a the simplest meal look gourmet.

  16. Love your animal dishes!!! Especially the rabbit...I'm partial to rabbits! I think my mom had the chicken one....I seem to remember one in my youth from somewhere.

That cutting board is adorable! I don't think I've seen one with flowers on it ~ I wouldn't use it either!

    Happy White Wednesday!

  18. Yes, I took ceramics about the same time. Well, we might have been in the same class, who knows? I made a deviled egg dish which I still have and a Christmas tree. My other things are long gone. I love your rabbit and it looks great with its companions.

  33. These white casseroles of yours reminded me of a stay at a B&B I love in the Texas Hill Country.
They used these, only smaller ones to serve our scrambled eggs in the morning. I always think of this little getaway place when I see small animal casseroles.

  36. Debra,
Girl, I was all about the 'greenware' in the day. Bless my Mom for keeping every painted Easter egg, Valentine heart & any other thing that would hold still long enough for me to glaze! Love the faux veg, but you can keep the turnips! Lisa

  37. Your bunny casserole is fabulous! I don't think I'd bake with any of them either, although I don't usually pass up a browned baked dish! Are you going to have to return the tablecloth now that you tattled on yourself? LOL :) My daughter just tattled on herself today when she came home with my shirt on!!! She forgot or didn't think I would notice! too funny! Happy WW, Theresa

  51. These are wonderful Debra.

Yes, I got caught up in the ceramic craze/daze. I was a Brownie Scout Leader in the mid 1970's. All the leaders in our town got together and decided it would be great to finish out the rest of the school year, one Spring, in ceramics, so we each put our troops in a class. I made a white ceramic pitcher and bowl set. It was 1976 and I still have it. It's signed and dated...I called it my Bicentennial Project.:-)

    Happy Weekend!
