Last Monday, in my post about the finds I had from the weekend, I showed this cream scrapbook, sort of in passing. When I was young I had a scrapbook or two, usually about movies that I had seen, memorabilia... high school stuff. My husband called this one to my attention, and truthfully I just bought it because of the color.
Monday in my comments, Dawn, from Cottage State of Mind asked about what was in the inside, so I had a look...and when I did a young woman's hopes and dreams were on display.
From the car, I'm thinking mid 1940s, although one photo of dishes was dated 1938.
Pictures of the ideal couple.
She liked modern architecture.
And had clipped magazine photos of how she would decorate each room.

Future daughter's room
Master Bedroom

This page is entitled "Color Harmony".
There were many more pages of thoughts and ideas.
So Helen, did your dreams come true?
Here's hoping our dreams do come true.

ReplyDeleteIf she married a guy named Joe, they did.
ReplyDeleteFascinating to see life captured like that in time.

Oh my, I'm so glad you shared this. How fitting she was thinking about family and home and the scrapbook ended up with you to share here. She could have done a wonderful tablescape with those dishes. Despite all the changes in the last 60 years or so we are still very much the same at heart.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest of your weekend,
Dawn
Don't you like finding little things like that? Insight into another persons thoughts and feelings, what a unique find. :D

That was really a super neaty find there!! I agreee the cover is fabulous, but that was a treat to peek inside days gone by!! Tootles, Janna
ReplyDeleteoh Debra, I love this scrapbook. The cover is gorgeous! And as for what's inside, her dreams are so cool. I can almost see a young woman clipping art out of a magazine and gluing her dreams, page by page. There again we are wondering....who was she? What's her story?
ReplyDeleteI love this...
everything vintage
i hope all of her dreams came true...what a great find...thanks for sharing it with us!!!
ReplyDeleteHow neat! I love seeing glimpses of the past preserved like this. How wonderful that her dreams live on through you. Great post!

Now that is exactly why I love old treasures...the story that goes along with every piece. Not very often do you get the individual tidbits. This one is especially wonderful because the story is laid out in front of you.
ReplyDeleteGreat find
Blessings

How very sweet. I love getting a glimpse into both another way of life and someone's take on it all. My friend Barb and I went to Spring Creek yesterday for lunch and she bought the adorable sampler in your booth--the one with the Shakespeare quote (we're both English teachers so it really got us) and the little Scottie on the stoop. It will be perfect in her entryway. I'll head back down and have a look again when you put your new finds in!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun to see what she put inside. I too wonder if her dreams came true!!!! Wouldn't we all like to know?
ReplyDeleteDebra, too bad her family doesn't have that scrapbook, but that means it was meant for you to save it! It's in wonderful condition, too. Thanks for sharing that-you brought a smile to my face :)
ReplyDeleteThat's great! It's fun to imagine the person behind the creation. I hope her dreams did come true!
ReplyDeleteSo fun to look at that... Thanks for stopping by and joining my followers list... love your blog and visit often!!!!
