Bountiful Fall Baskets Blog Hop

Using baskets has been a fun and creative way for me to decorate since I saw the first issues of Country Living Magazine back in 1978. One of the best things about them is that they can be found at any vintage market, flea, antique shop or garage sale, usually for a price that will fit anyone's budget. Baskets come in so many varieties; mostly wood products, wicker, willow, and even metals. Since I turn first to vintage finds, I have a good stash, big and small, that I can choose from. Today I'm joining in for a Fun Fall Blog Hop that's showcasing Baskets decorated for Autumn. If you're coming from Follow the Yellow Brick Home, so glad you're here. I think Amber loves this time of year just as much as I do.

My good friend Amber has gathered a bunch of us that adore decorating for Fall and can be sure to have at least one basket filled with seasonal goodness. Thank you, Amber for hostessing all the fun and inspirational Blog Gatherings!

We're in the middle of a renovation of an older home built in the 60's right now, and it's consuming my time, energy, and brain. I haven't been able to enjoy the Fall Season like I usually do, but I'm trying to make the most of it and not let my favorite season be ignored by paint and packing boxes.

I have a few places in my current home that I'm trying to be free of "all things moving" and the Entry area is one of them.

Entry Area this Fall

I started collecting vintage and antique funeral baskets years ago, and even though that sounds a little bizarre, they are beautiful wicker baskets meant for long ago floral funeral arrangements. Most were left graveside in the elements to later be discarded. Metal baskets are a little harder to find, and by now usually rusted, leaving little of the beautiful original paint intact.

I've had this particular basket in my stash for years, and almost sold it many times for just a few dollars. But the wonderful green paint patina kept me from parting with it through the years. Last year I decided I needed to put it to use, so I used some faux leaves and berries with a small white pumpkin and even some birdies flew in.

Last year in the kitchen.

A few years ago I used two small baskets with handles are filled with moss, twigs, and a grapevine orb, sitting on the Entry Console.

Another metal basket I've had for many years is this gray painted Italian metal piece I have been using on my Dining Room table. It has a base of moss and ivy which makes it easy to just change up the florals for whatever season I'm decorating. I love using faux hydrangeas, adding in some fall leaves, berries, and pumpkins.

I've kept this very old open weave basket with wooden handles on top of my china cabinet here in the Dining Room. The high ceilings at this house have given me space to decorate "vertically". It's hard to see, but the basket still has remnants of white paint that add to it's vintage charm.

A gray washed door Basket has been used each season while we've been here. With a new door and a new house I'm going to have to re-think my Front Porch Door displays. Here again, I usually keep faux Hydrangeas mixed with other seasonal flowers and branches. Adding a wired ribbon helps dress up any basket for a Seasonal or Holiday display.

In the kitchen Sitting and Dining, Area I again have the top of my china cupboard decorated with a large laundry basket, a chalk board from Pier 1 several years ago, an antique bird cage and small vintage watering can.

I love using Bittersweet to sprinkle around the house in Fall. This was an old bunch that I tied together with gardener's twine to use on the old laundry basket.

Another year I kept it simple with a vintage tray and small grapevine wreath.

I found this antique Fishing Basket last year. This photo was taken before I used a furniture stain to clean it up a bit.

Here it is later filled with Fall faux foliage, when I had cleaned it up a bit.
The Minwax stain helped to rehydrate it a little.

This rolling market basket is a favorite of mine and is usually kept in the Entry filled with seasonal florals and branches.

I use Baskets on the porches, but try to keep them out of the elements. Orchard Baskets are a fun and inexpensive way to display mums, pumpkins, and Fall florals.

And we don't want to forget metal gathering baskets. I have several of these and when they aren't holding magazines they can hold some fun Fall decor.

Metal picnic tins are another fun "basket" to decorate with for Fall.
These are stacked on my front porch last year.

Thanks so much for coming by. I hope you'll continue on the Bountiful Fall Basket Hop to visit Christy at Our Southern Home. And please be sure to check out the others who are part of this Fun Fall Blog Hop below on the Link-Up. You have inspired me to take some of dried hydrangeas and redecorate to get me through to the Christmas decor comes out. I hope the remodel is going well. 11. I have kept all my Country Living and Country Home magazines from 30+ years. They fill bookcase after bookcase in my house. Even though they are old, I still can thumb through them and find "new" ideas for my home. Beautiful basket decor. Thank you for sharing.

  13. I had to smile at the very end; I have the same metal picnic basket you have on your porch. We used it for picnics when I was a kid (now 67). Today it holds my stash of Christmas cards. I still have a row of small baskets on my kitchen soffit to be replaced by blue and white dishes eventually. Love my baskets. Your styling was absolutely lovely!

  19. Debra, you have so many tasteful styles and uses with your baskets. I have long admired each and all of these you've shown today, along with all the little elements - from the pretty plaid ribbon to the little birds and tied bittersweet - each one unique. I think that funeral metal basket is a keeper. There's something about the round handle feature that makes it like a wreath on a basket - a two-fer. I'm so glad you took the time to enjoy and share your style on this fall tour.
