Moss Covered Hearts

When thoughts of Valentine's Day and thoughts of Spring collide, I decided a moss covered heart would be fun to create. My inspiration piece has always been this beautiful moss covered heart with Autumn florals and leaves by Robin Gilmore, owner of The Vintage Suitcase, here in Springfield. I've had this photo in my archives and on the blog for several years. I love her work, but wanted something Valentine-y with fresh Spring-y colors. I didn't want to "copy", just give my own interpretation.

I started looking for inspiration for my own heart design and I've found several on Pinterest. You can find these next images on my Pinterest Board Moss Covered Love

Not just a heart wreath, but a heart shaped form covered in moss.

I gathered my supplies, trying to use moss and florals I had on hand. Let me just say... please have a surface that will take lots of Elmer's type glue, and clean up easily. I had so much fun creating my own Valentine Heart, but I was unable to capture my process for a tutorial since I was literally covered in moss. So here's a peek, and I'll share where I have it. Tomorrow. I'm still brushing moss out of the kitty's fur.

Be sure to check out my next post with a tutorial

Photos I've taken over the last several years.
Hope you're having a wonderful Sunday!

  4. Oooh, it looks so pretty, Debra! I can't wait to see the full piece. That's one thing I hate about working with moss. It always seems to get all over the place - even when I put down newspaper to catch it.

  5. I love all your inspiration photos, and the part of your heart that you shared looks gorgeous! It is messy, but the green adds a nice pop of fresh color in the dead of winter.

  12. I love this combination Debra! What a great way to bring in a little green. To be honest we have no green here at all! When I look out of my window all I see uis white, so your sweet mossy green heart put a smile on my face! Come on SPRING!
