Vintage Cottage Thanksgiving in the Holiday Cupboard

Hello to November! We're in the Holiday Cupboard today, playing with turkeys and vintage Thanksgiving pieces to put together a grouping that celebrates the last month of fall. Before we get into all the Christmas decorating and excitement, I like to take a bit to commemorate a time of blessing and Thanksgiving. It's easy to run past the Thanksgiving holiday; to get up the tree and deck the halls, but let's pay tribute to this warm and cozy time of Giving Thanks.

Playing in the Cupboard is dish "therapy" for me. I love to style a holiday themed cabinet no matter the season. During my time buying and selling vintage goods I collected small turkey salt and peppers and vases since my family holiday to host was Thanksgiving. I love a fun seasonally hued display and Thanksgiving is just another level of my Autumn "love" for décor.

Brown transferware and white ironstone are the perfect base and backdrop for a late fall dish display. Brown is my favorite transferware color and here in the Midwest it's always been the easiest to find. I don't have complete sets, but love mixing and matching pitchers, teapots, gravy boats, and creamers to give a varied and interesting grouping.

My plate stacks consist of white Staffordshire Swirl and Myott patterns, with random Aesthetic ware pieces and dinnerplates. Burlap and Brown Transferware was a fun display of Brown Transferware from the way-back machine.

This little vase is one of my fave vintage Turkey pieces
with his cream and neutral look.

I always have to mention the Turkey Disaster of 2014, when a vintage platter slipped, and all my turkeys went flying, literally. Many didn't survive, and were relegated to the dust pan. I salvaged several but they look like they've been through the war.

Pheasant feathers add a bit to the creamers, gravy boats, and vases.

I'm using the milk glass cake pedestal that my mom gave me for a pumpkin stand. It's so dense that it looks like ironstone.

I'll be sharing the rest of the garden room next week...

The last several years I've been mixing Thanksgiving and early Christmas to help ease the transition from fall to Christmas. Bring out the Christmas trees and greenery, then mix it up with pumpkins, turkeys and some neutral Christmas décor for a jump on the Christmas decorating train.

Here are a few Thanksgiving posts that you might enjoy...

Amazing what the turn of the calendar page to November does to the weather here in SW Missouri. All of a sudden it's cold and dreary with rain predicted for most of next week. Many of the leaves have ended up on the ground and the rest are pretty blah due to our September-October drought. Oh well, at least it's chilly and I can justify the wool throws and blankets being out all over the house.
Hope you enjoyed that extra hour of sleep last night. Most of us will be thrown off for awhile, especially the pets that don't understand why we are starving them. haha.
