Mid-Summer Roost in the Cupboard

The end of July signals a change in the atmosphere for me. I'm one of those people that while I enjoy summer, I don't enjoy the heat and I have always looked forward to the slow slide to early fall. Don't get me wrong, summer has beautiful memories and moments, but the promise of more moderate temps of autumn pull me along.

Late summer is the time for harvest colors outdoors and inside. Time for golds, darker deeper greens, darker reds and garden produce vibes. My chickens love "summer" and always make an appearance throughout the house with their quirky antics, poses, and color.

The roosters especially, love to strut their stuff and make their presence known. They give the cupboard a French Country feel, and bring to mind fresh eggs, mown hay and grasses, and mature blooms in the garden. I can live without the huge wake up call at dawn that roosters feel required to do though.

Most of this flock are vintage from the 1930's to 1960's. They compliment the bright colors of the French faience, Quimperware pottery and ironstone pieces. I'm still using the French pottery and red transferware from this summer's patriotic décor.

Seed packets with sunflowers and deeper summer blooms and gourds are scattered about the cupboard.

A few of my pieces of English Cottageware show up for summer.

Here's my oldest fellow; looks a little angry and aggressive to me. Probably has a lot to say, too.

Time for a few bee skeps to show up too; another summer theme.

I really enjoy my chickens during this time of year. They bring a hint of "farmhouse" and French Country to the Cupboard.

Here are a few more posts from the Cupboard during the summer and early fall months.
You know that I love a theme!

Are you thinking of making changes to your seasonal décor?
I'm expecting a barrage of fall posts to hit blogland as we head into August.
Meanwhile, I'm enjoying sunflowers, bee skeps, and some gorgeous deep color.
But, I'm totally ready for some Autumn Inspiration, how about you?

  3. LOL, Yes, we know you love a theme. I do too. Your cupboard looks so fun. I love the colors and honestly (not that I think you could stand to leave it alone), it will transition into fall very nicely. And I'm already looking forward to it! Stay frosty my friend.

    1. I went back to Pin an image but it's not letting me pin any of them. Not sure if it's your site or my problem. Hmmm.

    2. That's strange about pinning. I've found sometimes that if the advertising video is rolling or the bottom ad is too close, it blocks the action of "Pinning". I tried it on my side and it was working. sorry for the techy glitch on that. and you're right. I'll be messing around with the cupboard within a few weeks, haha!

  7. Debra I love the late summer farm theme. I always "feel" that vibe too. Although it is sooooo hot I just want to skip to cooler weather. It has been unbearable here (and I mean that literally, cannot go outside in the day.) I think of this time of year August into September, as having a mustard yellow or golden vibe. I am starting to add those in around the house. Not much time, going to pick up our chef up north this coming weekend and bringing him home for 3 weeks before taking him back for fall semester. Hoping to get some transitional decorating done this week beforehand. Thanks to you, I just realized I "need" a rooster for my new kitchen! ha!
