Hi Friends, how's your start to June and summer? I've been slowly transitioning my home decor from "Spring" to "Summer" this last week or so. My seasonal decorating relies on color along with favorite vintage linens and elements. I like to reflect nature's current color, so that my "indoor" views match my "outdoor" views. Spring focuses on pastels while summer brings out the brighter colors and concentrates on a bit of the red/white/blue.
My plant containers are over the hump of squirrel and deer attacks (hopefully) so they're gaining a bit of a foothold. Geraniums, lantana and mini zinnias seem to have survived the daily assaults of early May. Each morning I'd have to try to repair the damage and add more dirt and strategic rocks to fool the squirrels. Squirrels live for fresh dirt and and any bare areas were an invitation to dig.
Lately I've been using vintage quilts as the basis for my tablescapes in the Garden Room. This season it's a block pattern on a faded red chambray fabric. Folded in thirds, it makes for a colorful, fun tablerunner that brings out the patriotic colors that I can use for summer decorating as well. I can work with summery elements and just add patriotic cemetery flags for the July 4th Celebration.
My go-to flowers for early summer are faux white geraniums, daisies and hydrangeas. The old white painted ice cream bucket has been the vessel of choice for this time of year. I added in some curly willow and sticks for a more natural "just picked" feel.
All the elements are gathered on my whitewashed breadboard to keep it all contained. One of my variegated ivies along with a couple of old gardening tools is sitting in a vintage wire basket.
My very old antique insurance advertising plate with the calendar from 1919 joins the grouping on a small easel.
My mom gave me this Frenchy-look illustrative tea towel with a vintage gardener theme.
Here are a few other posts with a patriotic theme on the farmtable and at the sitting room from our previous home.

Thanks for coming by. Are you bringing out your patriotic décor yet?
Love your patriotic ice cream bucket. That towel is adorable. The quilt goes perfectly too. Your table is all ready for the 4th. Hope you are doing well. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Kris! Hope you're having a great week!
DeleteIt must have been the good ol' days back when insurance companies made plates for advertising. What do we get now - a cheap calendar? I'm not sure we even get those anymore. LOL. Love your centerpiece and every single treasure. I need to get over having large and tall displays on our table because yours are always stunning! Happy summer Debra!
ReplyDeleteI know, when was the last time we received ANYthing from companies we work with? I'm so surprised that plate has survived over 100 years. I guess if we used the table frequently I'd be more conservative on my centerpiece, but it's too tempting to use that spot as a place to decorate!
DeleteDebra, you know my red, white, and blue loving heart is enjoying this post! I always love seeing your seasonal changes, but summer is always a favorite! I pulled out my Uncle Sam and Lady Liberty collections yesterday, so things are getting a summer patriotic look here. I'll leave things out through to Labor Day. I'm still tweaking a few things, need to arrange my dough bowl, etc. It's always fun, but looks like I could be hosting an Uncle Sam convention. Ha! Ha! I need to fill my new to me vintage white watering can with a blue star on red background. I found it and a vintage patriotic pretzel tin late last year, so it is fun to pull out something new for my vignettes. Thanks for always inspiring me! Happy Summer, Debra!
ReplyDeleteSarah, your watering can and pretzel tin sound like a great find. It's hard to locate vintage patriotic pieces anymore. An Uncle Sam convention sounds super fun!!!
