Welcome Friends, to Christmas in the Holiday Cupboard! Each upcoming Christmas Season you'll find me playing in this old Pie Safe and transforming it to the Holiday Cupboard. It's one of my first decorating spots that I look forward to each Christmas. I love to bring out the red transferware, and this year some Tartan Plaid Christmas plates from Pottery Barn are added to the mix.
I start planning what I'll use here late Fall and trying to come up with a new theme and styling ideas while the leaves are still in their Fall glory. Each season is my favorite, but Christmas is extra special getting to bring out my little houses and nativity sheep for a fun reunion.
I usually use my vintage Putz houses in the Cupboard, but this year I found these "new" mini cardboard houses at Michaels (I think). I had originally planned on making a wreath, but instead they ended up here. I loved their neutral colors and they matched my plaid plates so I sprinkled them around the shelves. Like so many of you, I love little houses and they are especially perfect for so many holiday projects.
I keep my brown transferware here until I start decorating for Christmas then the big change up occurs after Thanksgiving. All the red transferware trades places and the white tureens come back out.
A favorite red transferware Churchill teapot always makes an appearance for Christmas. I've collected nativity sheep (and sheep in general) for years. They love to come out at Christmas and graze the cupboard shelves.
The red timbered cottage above and the Currier and Ives metal tray below are flea market finds that are Christmas favorites.
My sis gave me the little fellow below last Christmas. We had a small controversy over what he was. I said lamb; she said mouse. But he's a lamb because his ears are too low to be a mouse. tehe.
The Holiday Cupboard is a fun part of the sitting area here in the Garden Room. My love of Tartan Plaid for the wicker seating spills over into the cupboard. At Christmas all the festive plaid comes out to put on it's happy face.
My vintage stepladder has become fixed in this spot, no matter the season. It's a fun place to add a few more items of décor. This year my sleigh with my two lamb friends and a mini evergreen tree takes the top shelf spot.
Here are a few more posts from the Christmas Cupboard years' past.
