A Homespun Kitchen for Christmas

Do you love home-y ideas for celebrating the Holidays? I know that I do. I use several different styles mixed throughout my home, but here in the kitchen, hearth room and garden room, I love a cozy, snuggly vibe. Quilts, wool throws and lots of the "cozy" factor.

Today I'm in the kitchen sharing a cute cottage/farmhouse look with an old tool tote. Faux  evergreens are layered in with part of my collection of vintage kitchen utensils and tools. Some of these gadgets were purchased from the fleas over the years, but several are from my maternal grandmother's kitchen.

Helping to create a cozy, simple atmosphere are a gingerbread scented candle and my little fabric handmade gingerbread man. I usually buy candles that smell like fresh baked goods and for Christmas that special scent (or flavor) for me is gingerbread. I'm not sure why I choose scents that make me hungry for homemade cake and cookies.?

My favorite recipe book is a vintage one from Betty Crocker, It has some of the best basic recipes I've found. Lots of tips, too, for the cooking and baking challenged. I adore that vintage "side-eye" Santa mug.

It even has a wonderful Gingerbread Cookie recipe.

The small red rimmed mixing bowl is McCoy and it matches the cute and fun "mitten" batter spatula. Perfect for whipping up some gingerbread cookie icing.

The embossed antique rolling pin is a Scandinavian staple for cookie baking.

Mini Santas are lurking in the greenery.

Anyone else lick the bowl?

You know, with a spoon, not your tongue...

It would be more fun with a Tartan Plaid spatula?

My mom makes THE WORLDS BEST FUDGE, (the old fashioned, cooked forever kind) and we would all fight (even my dad) to get a chance to get a mouth full early.

Here's the Kitchen Niche dressed up for Christmas. I won't show you the stacks of Christmas catalogues and microwave that has been edited out underneath the niche.

The Christmas after we bought this house while we were still renovating, my sister surprised me with this wonderful plaid Christmas House. It was our only decoration here, but I dearly appreciated the Christmas cheer it brought!
