French Country Urn and Thanksgiving Centerpiece

Hello everyone, so glad you're here today to join us for the Grateful Gatherings Thanksgiving Hop hosted by our wonderful friend Laura from Decor to Adore.  If you're following the Hop and coming by via Lora Bloomquist at Create and Ponder then an extra special welcome and Hello. What a wonderful time of year to have a gathering of friends as we share our own way of celebrating a grateful Thanksgiving occasion.

Today we're here in the formal Dining Room and I'm sharing my everyday centerpiece on the table. I have a lot going on here with this Thanksgiving tableau, so I wouldn't be using this during Thanksgiving dinner. Since it's a large and visually heavy table I like to use a larger seasonal vignette with multiple elements.

I have two main pieces that often show up together for a seasonal centerpiece here in the Dining Room; the urn on a pedestal and the mini French Wagon. I'm most comfortable with neutral linens for the table, and today I'm using an antique French drapery panel with a Belgian vintage tapestry layered on top. Keeping a neutral table covering, whether a table cloth or a runner, gives you more leeway for bringing in the colors of the season.

I found the urn about 11 years ago at Pottery Barn and I think it looks like a heavy old iron piece, but really it's a lighter weight and some kind of composite material. My husband refused to carry it around for a day of shopping when he first saw it, thinking it was heavy. surprise, he didn't complain too much that shopping trip. It's sitting on a wood pedestal I bought last year from Antique Farmhouse. Earlier this fall I was using a lighted twig pumpkin, (below) but I wanted to change it up to a glass hurricane  candle holder for Thanksgiving. Moss, leaves, and a faux fruit garland add seasonal texture and color.

My figural lamb piece is always here in the dining room and is used throughout the year in almost all of my centerpieces. He's most at home here on the little wagon. He's nestled among tapestry pumpkins, and a twiggy garland with leaves and berries.

I love Majolica and pieces that reflect that woodsy natural design aesthetic. Fitz and Floyd is always on my wish list for any and all holidays. This little tureen happens to be from Cracker Barrel a while back. I found it on Ebay recently, and although it's not real Majolica, it has the look for a more affordable price.
