French Country Dining Room for Fall

Hello Friends, welcome to the Fall Dining Room, where shortly it will make the transition to Thanksgiving. The mini French wagon is joining my Pottery Barn urn this season for a late fall look, that can easily transition to the Thanksgiving holiday with just a few minor change ups.

The dining room table has had a lot of fall looks over the last 4 years here at this house. It's a big table and it can handle a larger centerpiece arrangement. Often the Italian metal basket takes center stage, but this year I wanted to use the urn with my grapevine twiggy lighted pumpkin and the mini French cart.

The wagon is holding one of my large ironstone, Staffordshire tureens, and my figural lamb sitting on some vintage books with fall faux foliage. I like to keep a "bed" of moss across the bottom of the wagon to give it some cohesiveness and grounding. Two of my dear tapestry pumpkins are sitting in the wagon, too. 

I have a lot of decor spots in this house, but the dining room spaces tend to be a bit more formal and "frenchy". Coming up with something new each season is challenging and pushes my creative thinking. Some of my favorite vignettes have been here on the dining room table. 

Some of you may remember back when the little wagon was painted black. It looked great during fall, but not so much the rest of the seasons. So, years ago I painted it a French gray to match my other table decor and accessories. You can read that post, Starting on Spring, to see that transformation. The French Gray works so much better with everything.

The base tablerunner is an antique French drapery panel with a Belgian tapestry from the 40's layered on top. Both have seen better days, but I love how they look for the Autumn seasonal table.

My lamb tureen is settled in a nest of grapevine on an English scalloped platter 

on the old washstand.

The buffet has another tureen sitting on a vintage silver tray, and two cake plates are on either side. My Staffordshire pups collection isn't very "fallish", but since I was gifted a new pair by my mom, I wanted to give them some showing off time. 

My daughter bought the paper mache squirrel for me many years ago and it's one of my favorite fall pieces. He comes out every year to help me celebrate.

Several weeks ago I participated in a blog gathering where we shared our pieces of Amber Glass. Here it's displaying my paper mache squirrel box.

When I do a tableau here, it has to be presentable from all sides. 

Here are two pics from dusk, when I turned on the mini lights in the twig pumpkin. They don't do the ambiance justice, because it was such a warm cozy feeling. Almost like candlelight.
