Harvest Color and Sunflowers in the Hearth Room

Hey friends, last week I shared my late summer mantel with an oil painting that needed a little DIY and TLC. It was time for a change up after the patriotic theme of July. Late July into early fall brings a sunflower explosion around the house. 

Late July after all the patriotic elements are stored away, I like to leave a bit of red to build on. Fruit themes, Majolica, and summer flowers with red geraniums show up with bright summer colors. 

But late summer I start bringing out the harvest colors of gold, dark greens, browns, and dark reds. This is my current sofa decor in the hearth room. My small gold floral quilted throw gives some color to the neutral sofa and my toile pillows add to the comfy factor.

Here's the sofa last week, when I still had out the "red"; my vintage churn-dash quilt and Waverly french-y fruit pillows. The sunflower pillow cover came from Amazon a few years ago.

And of course I'm using the indigo ticking quilt on the ottoman. You know my opinion... ticking is a neutral because it can be used with most prints.

I love having neutral slipcovered sofa and chairs. They feel like a canvas I can use to add color and prints with each new season. As we head into September, the sofa will change again...

Small bouquets in two old ironstone pitchers bring some late summer florals.

I think this old oil painting brings a French Country landscape feel with the old haywagon and horses. I often keep the small topiaries on bookstacks here and my white metal house lanterns. 

The little sewing table in the corner is the perfect size to squeeze in the corner.

Not wanting to date myself, but how many of you remember "Harvest Gold" from the 70's? I think my first refrigerator was that lovely color, along with the carpet, Formica on the counters and the flooring in the kitchen. Ahhh, the good ol' days of decor! (just kidding) Hard to believe I can even stomach it now.
