Early Fall Door Basket and Front Porch

Last week I shared my 5 Quick and Easy Ideas to Get in the Mood for Fall . I added a bonus tip and that was to do a mini refresh on the front door with a basket or wreath that bridges the gap between summer and fall.

Above is my door basket after July 4th decor was put away. I kept the red/white/blue florals but added in a few sunflowers and black-eyed-susans to make it more "summery" and less patriotic. I kept the indigo stripe ticking as a ribbon, and decided to hang on to it until more fallish weather.

So, this week as we near the end of August I exchanged the blue/white Buffalo Check pillow covers that I've had on the porch since late May for my orange/white covers that look a bit more "late summer". I found them on Amazon and have most all of the colors. They are an inexpensive way to change up the porch for the seasons without breaking the bank. I have a problem with small chewing rodents and I'm not going to spend a lot of money on pillow covers . 

I'm not ready to decorate full-on Fall, so just a hint of color and décor out here to get me to mid-September when I'll bring out the mums and pumpkins. My mini wheelbarrow is decorated with some faux ivy, a couple of dried gourds, deer shed antlers, a church birdhouse and an old rake head. A bit of fallish decor without the pumpkins.

Last week I changed up the door basket again, removing the red and blue florals and adding in some faux coneflowers, and late season faux hydrangeas. Hydrangeas make such an amazing journey from pale green, and white to subtle color and then turn darker at the end of the summer season. 

This is the season my "Spicy Hue" paint color from Sherwin Williams really shines. It's the perfect background for late summer and fall decorating.

Something/someone new here on the front porch is one of my little garden girl statues that had been out back. Her sweetness was lost in all the other vintage garden decor back there next to the birdbath. I'd often see a bird or chipmunk sitting on her head, and she was exposed to the elements so I felt like she needed to be here on the covered porch. She was painted this dark gray color years before I met her. Her little downturned face is precious, but I couldn't get low enough to get a good view of her. 

Next month I'll bring in some mums and pumpkins and add in my paisley pillows for more color and fun fall looks. I didn't spend a lot of time or thinking into this, I just wanted a quick change up with the color scheme and vibe. This is part of my effort to create an easy transition to Autumn.
