Hi Friends, today you're in for a treat because a group of us vintage lovers are getting together to share our milk glass pieces and how we use them in our home decor. The Lifestyle of Love Hop occurs every other month and each time we share a certain vintage topic or collection. Cindy from County Road 407 coordinates all the fun! If you're coming from Cindy's, yay, so glad you're here.
I'm in the Dining Room today with a late summer refresh of the buffet. Often times this spot gets a little "clutter-y", but today I tried to pare down a bit and let the focus be on the cloches on either side of the ironstone tureen. Using a cloche over an item automatically makes it more noticeable and seemingly important.
Since we're celebrating milk glass today, I'm using my only piece of milk glass as a pedestal for a small nosegay of faux summer blooms. I have several cloches of varying sizes and this one sits atop the cakestand.
I inherited this piece from my mom who had quite a few pieces of decorative milk glass back in the 60's. This piece is very dense, not translucent like many other milk glass pieces. It almost looks like ironstone unless you closely inspect it. I found it at all price points on Etsy and Ebay. So if you love cake stands you could add one of these to your collection, easily.
I liked the painted white Ball Jar to compliment the pedestal and the bright and colorful posies. I've not collected any milkglass pieces as I've concentrated on older ironstone instead. I do like the "Hobnail" pieces, but I lived through the 60's as a child and I usually don't collect pieces that I've been familiar with.
The cupcake pedestal on the opposite side of the buffet is one I put together about ten years ago when there was a little trend joining a small candleholder with a dinner or salad plate to create varying heights for display.
A small creamy vintage pottery compote contains another mini nosegay of summer blooms. This cloche is much larger so it completely covers the floral arrangement, sitting on top of the marble buffet top.
I think this plate is Haviland, but can't find the pattern. It's a little ornate and elegant so it works well for display in the dining room.
See who's peeking around the corner?
Another gift from my mom recently are these Staffordshire dogs that are from the 80's and are the real deal, not reproductions. They are a smaller size, but still make a statement on display.
Staffordshire dogs en masse make an adorable collection display. These little pups are in perfect condition.
The Dining Room table is due for a fallish update, and I'm planning on that soon. A change in tablerunner and a few sunflowers and leaves will join in on the basket.
How about you; do you collect milk glass?
Here are a few other posts from previous Lifestyle of Love Hops.

You are the queen of cloches, Debra! I love how you paired your milk glass cake stand with the cloche and then changed it up depending on the seasons. It's so pretty and versatile too. Big hugs, CoCo
ReplyDeletethanks so much CoCo. You have to use a cake stand for something when you rarely make cakes!
DeleteWould you believe it if I said I have never thought to use my cloche on a pedestal or cake plate? It's true! I think it's because I (and all the other people here) are kinda clutsy and do not pay attention to what is around when carrying anything. It's sad really. I've lost many a treasure like that. Love all of your cloche ideas and I'm so eager to try a little fall decor in mine. And your buffet this week looks amazing! YOU are amazing! Always enjoy seeing your creativity at work. pinned
ReplyDeletewow Cindy, thanks so much!!! The dining room is about the only place I trust myself with a big cloche. They ARE super heavy and unwieldy. Having the milk glass pedestal base makes it fun to try different seasonal ideas. I always enjoy these hops because they make me stretch my blogging imagination! Thanks so much for putting them together!
DeleteThat is so simple, elegant and versatile!
ReplyDeleteI love the big cloche you've used with your cake pedestal. And your summer flowers in the mason jar are the perfect thing to put underneath it. So many beautiful styling ideas, as usual!
ReplyDeleteThe cloche with your white cake pedestal looks so pretty. I love seeing all the white styling. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteI do collect milk glass. I’m happy to see cloches in blogland again. I missed them.
ReplyDeleteMilkglass cake plates are the most useful pieces to have! If you’ve only got one, you’ve got the best one, Debra:) Such a pretty buffet display. A cloche does make anything important.
ReplyDeleteYour dining room buffet looks so pretty styled with the cake plates and cloches! Your so right, when you put a cloche over something it transforms it! Your milk glass pedestal is so versatile and I love all the different ways you've used it, especially the fall needlepoint pumpkin~

ReplyDeleteLots of pretty touches here, Debra. I'm so far behind, like 3 seasons at this point. I love how you use all your pretty antiques in everyday living, which is how they should be used! Hugs, Sandi
