A Milk Glass Cake Pedestal for Summer Florals

I'm in the Dining Room today with a late summer refresh of the buffet. Often times this spot gets a little "clutter-y", but today I tried to pare down a bit and let the focus be on the cloches on either side of the ironstone tureen. Using a cloche over an item automatically makes it more noticeable and seemingly important.

Since we're celebrating milk glass today, I'm using my only piece of milk glass as a pedestal for a small nosegay of faux summer blooms. I have several cloches of varying sizes and this one sits atop the cakestand.

I inherited this piece from my mom who had quite a few pieces of decorative milk glass back in the 60's. This piece is very dense, not translucent like many other milk glass pieces. It almost looks like ironstone unless you closely inspect it. I found it at all price points on Etsy and Ebay. So if you love cake stands you could add one of these to your collection, easily. 

I liked the painted white Ball Jar to compliment the pedestal and the bright and colorful posies. I've not collected any milkglass pieces as I've concentrated on older ironstone instead. I do like the "Hobnail" pieces, but I lived through the 60's as a child and I usually don't collect pieces that I've been familiar with. 

The cupcake pedestal on the opposite side of the buffet is one I put together about ten years ago when there was a little trend joining a small candleholder with a dinner or salad plate to create varying heights for display. 

A small creamy vintage pottery compote contains another mini nosegay of summer blooms. This cloche is much larger so it completely covers the floral arrangement, sitting on top of the marble buffet top.

I think this plate is Haviland, but can't find the pattern. It's a little ornate and elegant so it works well for display in the dining room.

Another gift from my mom recently are these Staffordshire dogs that are from the 80's and are the real deal, not reproductions. They are a smaller size, but still make a statement on display.

The Dining Room table is due for a fallish update, and I'm planning on that soon. A change in tablerunner and a few sunflowers and leaves will join in on the basket.
