Vintage Birdcage Candleholder with Seashells

I get on a mini seashell obsession during the months of July and August. Seashells are "summer" to me, so I don't display them other times of the year. Since we live in the middle of the Midwest, (no where anything "coastal"), I have to take advantage of this time of year. So last week I shared a display in the Garden Room, and this week I have a fun Pinterest inspiration vignette in the Entry.

To get started, let's look at the bottom of the pic... I get stuck in a rut easily, so I made it a point to try something new on the shelf underneath. Two antique seed boxes and my antique music box are stacked for a different look. Okay, now onto the birdcages.

I love Pinterest and I spend a lot of time on there gathering inspiration and ideas. Some people prefer IG, but you can type in a topic on Pinterest and browse to your heart's content. If I have an idea in my head I always turn to Pinterest to see where that might take me. As far as I'm concerned Pinterest is a completely different animal to IG. And saying that, I have images that are iconic to me. The photo below is one of those that has always intrigued me; combining vintage birdcages, candlelight, and seashells into one amazing visual.

I put together two different birdcages with the few shells that I have for a summery evening display. Here is the entry console before lighting that evening glow. I don't have tons of shells, nor any coral, so it's missing a bit of the drama, but still pretty.

I've since moved the birdcages around; the smaller one to a different spot so as not to overwhelm or compete with the display. I have them here together to share with you.

I tried to complement the colors of the shells, and found this parchment colored bird print that I felt matched those colors... creams, peaches, pinks, and browns.

My paperwhites are still in the white pottery vase, but it's time for sunflowers, zinnias, hydrangeas, daisies, and rudbeckia.  I change up my entry console about once a month as I look for the nuances of each season, and try to coordinate my décor.

The larger birdcage has a taupe ribbed pillar candle in a clear glass votive. (You know the candle that you buy and then can save the glass holder). The mesh screen at the bottom makes it a little harder to see the shells.

The smaller cage has a votive candle in a mercury glass cup.

I can't believe I've been looking at that photo for the last 10 years

 and just now tried to replicate it.
