Rustic Garden Seashell Display

Hey friends...

Most of the red/white/blue is packed away, with a little red left behind for "summer". Mid-summer is here and I now have a short space of time to bring out the seashells and put together some fun displays and vignettes using some vintage elements as containers.

In the past I've created displays using trays and tureens, silver candy dishes and iron plant containers. Most of those vignettes have been decidedly on the "romantic" side, but this year I wanted to do something with a bit more "rustic garden" feel.

I have several of these old Greek Key concrete planters from the 40's that I've collected over the years. The last few years I've used a set of them on either side of the back porch steps with ivy. But this year I had an extra urn that was on it's own that had ended up being a squirrel perch. I have a real battle with the squirrels with the newly planted plant containers. If they see dirt, it's fair game to dig and pull up new baby plants. So this extra one was begging for some attention that didn't include dirt or squirrels.

If you may remember I found this cutie little chippy metal basket last month and did a post holding my breadboards. Since then it's been around the garden room in several different groupings. Now it's here on the bench/coffee table holding faux paperwhites and a conch shell and two starfish.

One of my cheese box drawers joins the grouping and is filled with a variety of small shells.

After I put the grouping together I added one of my mini iron urns with a votive for a bit of a glow in the evening. I've mentioned before that my vignettes are always a work in progress, as I tweak things and move them around until I get a feel for how it looks to me.

This week I changed up the quilt and pillows on the wicker settee for a more summery look after the July 4th patriotic color for the last 6 weeks. 

At dusk this sunroom takes on a lovely cozy glow.

You can't tell it from the pics, but both those urns got a thorough scrub before coming inside.
