Cottage Review: A Vintage Garden Book and the Wicker Settee

Hey Friends! Last week I shared a post from my first blogging house with a precious floral teapot and a small bouquet of hot pink (Barbie would love them) knockout roses. I mentioned then that growing roses wasn't something that I excelled at, but knockout roses were a good substitute and made me feel better about my not-so-green thumb. So when I ran across this section on roses in my vintage Better Homes and Gardens Garden Book I wanted to share it with you.

I found this Boho patch quilted throw last year and it's just perfect for mid to late summer. It's dark greens, golds, and deep reds feel right at home this time of year as we're heading towards fall. After all the patriotic reds and blues are packed away I like to bring out the harvest-y colors of late summer. I love ticking stripes and recently found these authentic looking taupe stripe pillow covers on Amazon. Since my pillow stash has busted out of it's confines I've been buying pillow covers that I can easily change out.

This gold floral "backside" of the patch quilt works great if you want to use patterned pillows as an alternate look. This quilt also came from Amazon, not sure if it's still available. I think I may switch out for the gold floral side in a few weeks when we're into August and late Summer.

I found this beautifully detailed embroidered rose motif pillow many years ago at a vintage market. It's a lovely off white linen that was made probably in the 30's. It's in surprisingly good shape, but very delicate. I've shared it many times here on the blog throughout the seasons.

I like to keep my quilts and pillows color scheme seasonal, so this time of year it's about those summer deep colors of golds, greens, and reds. Here's the post from last year.

Boho Quilted Throw in the Garden Room

Every spring and summer you could find these wonderful and comprehensive garden encyclopedias at fleas and markets for less that 5 dollars. I remember buying these right and left for my vintage booth spaces, but after giving several away, I'm hanging on to the 2 I have left. You can find them on Etsy by just typing in the title. Honestly, they are so charming and "current" that every gardener and aspiring one, needs to have a copy.

The spiral notebook concept really works so you can take just a sheet or two out to your garden work without lugging a big book around. Maybe you need to add your own personal notes and ideas; works perfectly. This edition is from 1954 and was well-used and tattered when I bought it. I've fallen in love with their cottage-y midcentury photos and graphics.

I looked for one that is an up-to-date version, but it doesn't appear that there is a contemporary edition.

Love these detailed illustrations.
